Mr CL and I won’t be doing a first look (it’s not something you really get in the UK, unless people have been keeping it very quite from me!) and I was wondering how to deal with hiding from him before the ceremony, given that it’ll be outside (weather permitting – possibly wishful thinking in England!)?
I’ll be getting ready at my parents’ house and driving to the venue not long before the ceremony is due to start. There’s the possibility of getting there a little early and commandeering one of the rooms (most likely the bridal suite) but the entrance to the hotel is visible across the whole of the grounds (it’s a very small venue!) so I’d have to come really early to avoid Mr CL seeing me before the ceremony starts.
Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this when marrying in a small venue?

Does the hotel not have a back entrance? Most venues are understanding and happy to work with brides in this situation even if it means walking through the kitchen.

@julies1949: Unfortunately the only way in is right in front of where the ceremony will be! Although there is a secondary driveway, so I suppose we could drive in through that one and just have a longer walk along the front of the hotel 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion though! I’m not sure why I’m thinking about it already – there’s heaps of time yet and I’m sure the DOC will know what to do about it.

Is there cell reception? If so, call ahead and have someone stash the groom some place where he can’t see, or just have the groomsmen keep him looking in the opposite direction for the 30 seconds it takes you to get inside.

@juliette.eliza: Hahaha totally got the wrong end of the stick for a second there and thought you meant a dungeon-type cell! I wondered why you thought my reception would be in a dungeon and whether it’d be a good idea to lock him up Silly differences between British and American English!
To answer your question, no there’s no reception out there.
