Hopefully some of y’all will understand my concern…we are on a very tight budget so have decided to forego expensive musicians and unfornately though I have a piano and guitar player in my family they will also be in the wedding. Our ceremony will be outdoors at an old historic citrus farm. We have decided that the most feasible thing to do would take a portable stereo/boom box, burn the songs we want for the ceremony and play from the stereo behind where all the guests will be seated.
Has anyone else done this? Will the sound of the music coming from a stereo sound okay outside?
Any input would be wonderful.

At my brothers wedding we used an iPod and (powerful) dock to play music. It worked really really well. That said, it was a small wedding of about 50 people. It was an outdoor wedding in our yard and we were under a tent (rainy day). I’m planning on doing the same thing at my wedding which is at an outdoor sugar mill ruin in Hawaii. Not sure if the sound will be as good if there are more people or if there isn’t a tent to "catch" the sound. Does anyone else have any experiences or suggestions?

I’m really glad you asked this question! I’m planning on doing this at my wedding too, but am really nervous about it. I’m not sure who we should put in charge of the cd player and where to set it up. Hopefully someone can offer some insight.

it is going to be pretty small, probably less than 50 people when all is said and done. We won’t have a tent but i’m thinking it should be fine as small as the area is…
any other insight from anyone who has experience here would be great..
thanks for the comments so far!

I think I might purchase a Bose sound dock to do this at my wedding. I was going to rent equipment, but the cost is about the same.

I’m getting married in a garden next month. Our wedding site provides a sound system for the outdoor ceremonies. Basically, there are speakers hidden in some of the bushes & flowers. The site also provides a day of coordinator and someone to handle the CD player and fade the songs so we don’t end up standing there for 3 minutes staring at each other while the songs finish.
