Okay, so my FH and I are planning an outdoor reception in July of 2013. It’s something we both really want and have agreed to even before we were engaged. We wanted something a little more non-traditional than the fancy hall, with so-so food, so-so dancing, etc. We wanted something more family reunion style.
So we are probably having a pig roast, there will be a swimming pool, corn hole and other yard games. Those that have had outdoor receptions, what were your themes? We both would like to have some kind of theme. Of course there is the luau idea but I feel like that’s been overdone. I’m just looking for other ideas.

Why not just decorate with flowers in the colors you like?
Or you could go with Star Wars. That’s a good theme.

Outdoor Reception Ideas:
Braveheart, his family and your family can fight it out! Or, go Hatfield and McCoy and fued red-neck style!
Ice Cream Social a la the 1930’s, cause hey, everyone likes ice cream.
Victorian Garden Party, the hats alone will be enough decoration.
You could go all Great Gatsby out there…he had a pool, right?
Or, Chrismas in July…

We are having an outdoor reception as well just because that is what we want, the indoor ballroom traditional wedding thing never really appealed to us. We aren’t just having a reception theme, but our overall theme is travel simply because we LOVE to travel! I don’t know if this helps you whatsoever but that is our “theme”. What about like a garden party? Tiki party same as Luau probably haha…are you guys into rustic things? Modern? Just try to think of what is YOU guys as a couple a go from there.:)
