What about a courtyard or large patio area at a church? Some churches have beautiful grounds and outdoor areas that would be suitable for a ceremony. Then you could have the santuary as a back up in case of weather issues and still get a bit of the church feel.

Ball gowns can be beautiful at outdoor ceremonies as long as the locations are a bit more formal–beach weddings, park weddings, etc might be a little odd with a ballgown.

I personally am fighting hard to find a nice outdoor wedding location.

My FH and I are outdoorsy – we tend to wind up camping at least one weekend a year. It’s usually due to our hobbies, but we’re outdoors, in the doors.. and love a chance to take a stroll.

That said, I think its beautiful to be surrounded by natures (possibly changing trees?) for a ceremony.

My only thought – have a back up plan!

Whether it’s a deposit on a tent if necessary, an indoor area  you can relocate to if the weather is bad. If it’s going to be sunny and hot – hand fans, parasols, cool drinks pre-reception. If possibly cool – look for someplace buffeted from the wind. Maybe courtyard of a building would work well to try to block potential wind.
