The venue we’re looking at has a pretty open spot for the ceremony, but it’s kind of a boring background. I was thinking about renting a few columns [4ft, 3ft, and 2ft] then sort of lining them up and placing a large fern on top of each. It would at least be something to look at, but it’s also sort of boring. I can’t really think of what else to do…
What did you do/what do you plan on doing as a backdrop for your outdoor ceremony? Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

if you google backdrops theres so many inexpensive ideas. you dont really even need an arch, you could do ribbon or cut fabric in long strips or even mixed in with cut plastic tablecloths. i have a very handy fil so were doing panels covered in fabric or big rolls of paper with long branches air nailed across the front to tie into our rustic/nature theme. there are so many cheap diy ideas out there though, happy googling!

This is crazy, but my Future Mother-In-Law is an ice sculpter. She is making us ice pillars for the altar, 2 on each side. We’re putting potted ferns on top of them.

@troublesmom: I did google, but the bees are always so helpful, I was hoping someone had some of their photos of creative ideas to share.
@WreckerBabe: Wow. I bet that will look great!

I really like the look of those pretty ribbon backgrounds. Maybe something like that would be nice?

I think the pillars might look out of place at an outdoor wedding.
You could use logs instead on either side – like this without the vase
or make a frame and insert birch branches like this

I don’t think anyone will care…They will be focused on you my dear! Trow your heart and soul into the reception!

@julies1949: I love that log in the vase idea!!
@Mrs. Bear Cheese Pie: We are planning on an outdoors wedding too and I thought I would try to do something like this in my colours. (and may even do that log vase idea!!)

Ours is wide open as well. We are doing rusticy theme and i came across a bee selling this petal curtain. I think I am having fiance find two big branches to form like an arch and then we can stand behind it. I wanted to a ribbon wall but even with my marvelous sale shopping skills figured it would be wayyyy too pricey!
It will be about 9 feet across…. interested to see what everyone else does for this dilema!
