OK, so we are having an outdoor wedding and reception in my Fiances grandparents back yard. The yard is huge 98′ x 120′ and overlooks the ocean. The view is amazing and we are so lucky to have a beautiful location like this without paying for it!
We really want to do everything non-traditional and out of the box for our wedding. We are thinking of hiring concession carts (like you see outside of Fenway park) or Concession trailers (like at a fair) to feed our guests. Being on the water we will somehow word in our invite to bring your towels & suits, dress comfortable, and that this is not a formal wedding.
My question….does this sound tacky? Would you be excited to show up at a wedding and find this type of food? We are thinking burgers, sausage, hot dogs, french fries, onion rings, pasta salad, potato salad, slush, fried dough, popcorn, pizza. What do you think?
Oh and what do we do about any vegetarians?
Thanks for your help!!!

I think it sounds awesome!

As long as it’s very clearly worded that it’s informal, I’d be thrilled to see it at a wedding :). It sounds really fun!

That would be awesome!! And I second the falafel! But I can also always go for a good veggie burger or grilled cheese. If you are having a burger one maybe just ask the burger place if they do veggie burgers. Or fish!

How lucky to have such a wonderful location! I think the food idea and the swimming sound like so much fun. I agree w/PP about informing the guests it’s causual… everything should be great.

sounds great! there are meatless alternatives to hotdogs, burgers & sausage. you’ll also have others things they can eat.

That’s so much fun, you can pick like a carnival themed invitation suite so hopefully when you say that it’s informal on the invitation and they see the theme they’ll understand. We were going to do a taco stand if we were getting married in California (which is what we originally planned) but there’s nothing fun like that in Upstate NY which is where we ultimately decided to get married.

I would love it. I’m sure the right decorations would make it really cute and fun rather than tacky 😀 falafels, veggie burgers and potato salad would keep the vegetarians happy I think 😀 Also, grilled halloumi cheese with grilled pepper is really tasty.

I think it sounds like a fun wedding! Not tacky at all, as long as you include options for everyone.

Thanks everyone! We are pretty excited about it but I have a tendency to get a little “carried away” with my ideas and not seeing the whole picture 🙂 So your opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated to keep me in check !
I love the idea of falafel, veggie burgers, and grilled cheese (that’s good for kids too)! I can’t imagine that would be difficult to add.
sit1010 what a great idea for the invitations! I think that’s my hardest project right now finding invitations that are fun and not to formal 🙂

I think it sounds so fun! As long as you make sure people know what to expect. I would probably say something about it being like a carnival or fair (my cheesey brain thinks: “commitment carnival” or ” A fun afFAIR” or something equally silly and punny!)

I think it sounds awesome!! I’m vegetarian, and I think falafel and grilled cheese sound great. I’m not wild about veggie burgers – they’re ok, but they’re usually not very good. But the first two are awesome, and believe me, we vegetarians also enjoy things like fries, onion rings, fried dough, pasta and potato salad, and pizza. I think we’d be unlikely to starve at this wedding. 🙂 Gain 10 lbs in a single afternoon, yes. Starve, no.
