We are having a small outdoor ceremony (me, FH, his parents,my best friend). We are going to be in a local community park. There is no gazebo or other shelter there. Worst case scenario if it rains is we truck over to his parents house (less than 5 mins away) and get married there. Wedding is at 1PM on Jul. 2nd. Officiant mentioned it would be good if we had shade as well. I didn’t really think about that. Do you think we need some sort of tent or covering for the 20 minute ceremony? And does anyone have any ideas? I’ve been googling canopy tents but they aren’t exactly pretty or inexpensive it seems. If I found one that was cheap (translation: $100 or less since it’s almost guaranteed I’ll never need it again), what could I do to make it look more visually appealing? Or should we just suck up the heat and sunshine and only worry about the rain? Would it be a good idea to maybe just have decorated umbrellas for the guests? Any other suggestions?

For a 20 minute ceremony, I think you’d be fine without the tent. But take into consideration that people will arrive earlier than your start time so be sure to begin the ceremony promptly.

You should provide water bottles for everyone. And if possible, make your programs into a fan or have fans out there for people. 1pm is probably the hottest time of day in the summer. Are you in the South? It’s been getting past 100 degrees this summer. If you don’t provide shade (which is fine), please do the water bottles!

Can you pick a nice spot near some trees? The trees can provide some shade.

I think if you’re in a park, you should be able to use trees for shade. I wouldn’t go out and buy something for such a short ceremony.

I think you should definitely have some sort of shade even if its under a tree. Guests will get there early and there is always the possibility of starting late and all that ends up to more than 20 minutes. Even a few minutes in the midday sun especially during the summer can be unbearable.

Thanks Ladies! There are some trees in the area, and also I forgot about a couple of benches in a shaded area where people can sit if they need to. I think I will skip the tent.
Great idea about the water bottles and the fans! I’ll work on those two suggestions!

Definitely water and fans. What about buying some cute parasols since it’s a small ceremony?

Agreed- I’d skip the tent, but just get a table with a bucket with bottled water in it, a few parasols if you have elderly or other guests you know avoid sun, and some sunblock. Even though the ceremony is only 20 minutes, people will come early and most won’t think about that.

I like the idea of the parasols. I might try to incorporate that. Sunblock seriously would never have occured to me. Thanks!!!
