I have been madly searching for a fun, outdoor wedding venue in Pittsburgh that’s a little off the beaten path.
We are not crazy about having dancing at our reception, but would prefer to have lawn games and other activities to get people socializing and make sure it’s not boring.
Ideally, we’d like everything to be low key and small, keeping costs down etc ($30,000 for one day seems CRAZY!)

Have you looked into any parks in the area? Most will rent to residents for a minimal fee, and to visitors for a couple hundred dollars. In Beaver, there’s a lovely park with a gazebo they rent for $60. Maybe there’s something similiar in pittsburgh? Does Schinley Park have anything?

@kak3684: you could check out any of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy locations: http://www.pittsburghparks.org/
ive heard Five Pines Barn is gorgeous as well.
Stonebridge Farm Nursery
Springwood is so pretty, but I believe it’s pricey.

Friends of ours got married at Phipps (reception elsewhere, because that was crazy pricey). We got a friends and family deal on our wedding at the Frick (again, reception elsewhere because their preferred caterers were insanely expensive). Our photographer, who I can highly recommend, does a LOT of weddings at Lingrow Farm, which is out a bit far but still super pretty.
And yes, the parks are gorgeous!

What part of Pittsburgh are you in?
There’s South Park, which is in the South Hills, and there’s also Schenley Park, near Oakland.
If you’re North, try North Park.
Try googling “Pennsylvania parks” and you should get a link to the state website with all the listings.

North park won’t work unless you’re willing to shut the party down when the sunsets. Park closes at dark.
What about Hartwood Acres?

Check out Succop Conservancy in Butler. It’s absolutely gorgeous and pretty much all outdoors. I almost booked there but decided against it because it’s just a little too far away for us and most of our guests. And I was too anxious about not having an indoor reception, though they do have a big pavilion.

Thanks for the suggestions!
My main issue is a time crunch at this point- We’d like to do May or June and there are very few, if any, dates available at the locations I love.
We’re deciding between Phipps, Stonebridge Farm Nursery, and a country club.
Most of the other outdoor venues (Succop, Destiny Hill, Shady Elms) are booked on Saturdays 🙁

Our ceremony is at Roselea Farm in Moon Twp. (http://www.roseleafarm.com/)
They have a large lawn and have done full receptions as well as just ceremonies.
I believe she charges on a per person rate (no catering/rentals are included), but for just the ceremony & rehearsal for us it’s reasonable.
I know they’re booked May 18th!

If you haven’t already found somewhere Five Pines Barn is wonderful! My husband and I got married there in September and it was absolutely perfect! They just put a website up but I’m happy to answer any questions you might have if I can!

@Burghbound: I’m near Beaver, which park are you talking about?
