Im planning to have my wedding (reception and ceremony) on my in-laws backyard. they live in the country side in Puerto Rico and 3 minutes walking from the beach. from their backyard you have full view of the beach. is beautiful! we are planning a small guest list (about 50). the the wedding will be for july 31 2010. the weather in the island is really good for summer. i have a question does any of you guys had been in an outdoor wedding?? im not sure if i should rent a tent or do it under the stars. if we don’t use tent how can we light the surroundings? does anybody have ideas?? the tent is an extra expense that i know is useful but i love the idea of dancing under the stars.

I am planning on having an outdoor reception on the deck under the sun since it’s day light, I would probably have a few tents set up (only just in case it rains) something like this would be cool

Are there trees to hang strings of lights or lanterns from? Otherwise, maybe you can use poles. Also, it seems like having a tent on reserve is a good idea unless you are really close to 100% sure that it won’t rain.

I would say to skip the tent if the weather is nice. We’re having our reception at a historical house. Dinner will be outside and dancing and cake will be inside. We’re having cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres on the back veranda. Outside we’ll have round tables, and market umbrellas providing shade. Are you doing the entire event outside? I love the idea of stringing Christmas lights and using lighted paper lanterns around an outdoor dancefloor.

I would also suggest having a ceremony area and reception area set up separately. I went to a wedding once where the ceremony area was set-up, and so was the reception area, but you had to take your chair to a table after the ceremony. I thought it was cheesy. If you can afford it get enough chairs so that your guests don’t have to move furniture.

my wedding will be outside in august…the weather here is totally unpredictable so we will have a couple tents over the bar/food and maybe a couple on standby, but for lighting we are setting up poles around the dance floor and wrapping white xmas lights around them and hanging in between and criss-cross over the dance floor. there is a big tree we will wrap lights around the truck and hang latern balloon type things underneath the branches. plus we are having a bonfire going too…i dont know when sunset is in puerto rico, but its pretty late here so lighting wont be such a huge deal.
