This is my stand-in ring. We got it in Cambodia about one year ago and it’s the first ring that he gave it to me.! so the meaning is siginificant.

I’m not an expert, but it’s my understanding that all ovals have some sort of bow tie effect, because it’s an elongated shape. I read that you can get away from a significant bow tie if it’s on the spectrum of shallow or deep cut; however you will lose brilliance and fire. My oval has a bow tie that is more noticeable in natural light. I looked at over 7 loose ovals and chose mine over a roval, because I have long fingers, but it’s all personal preference. I’ll post my outdoor pics vs indoor (office ) so you can see the difference.

ppresto :

Thank you !  I wasn’t completely confident when I initially picked the oval shape.  I was also looking at the emerald cut and the cushion, but seeing the oval sitting next to different shapes made me realize that you get the most bang for your buck in terms of size and brilliance.  The only shape I didn’t compare it to was the radiant.

Bow ties are part of the cut of an oval.  You have the least chance of a bow tie with a 4 main pavilion (versus a 6 or 8), however, I’m that also affects the facet pattern (I tend to like 6 or 8 main because of the faceting patterns). Now whether bow ties are faint and enhance the diamond or are dark and distracting makes all the difference in the world! I chose this oval after looking at over 8 diamonds in person.

Embrace the bow tie as long as it’s not too distracting ๐Ÿ™‚ my  bow tie looks darker in some light conditions and lighter in others . Here are a few pix
