I am in love with my oval diamond engagement ring (as well as the gentleman who gave it to me!), but I was wondering about something: does yours look different in different lighting? This might be true for all shapes, but it seems like an oval can really change it’s appearance (shadows, color, etc). Does anyone else notice this? Thanks!

I have a princess cut, but mine definitely changes shades depending on the light and which way you tilt it. I think it looks kind of greenish when it’s tilted one way, but my sister calls it gray :P.

that’s the case with all diamonds. since they’re near colorless, their appearance depends on the light that’s reflecting them.
ovals can show more shadows than other shapes. depending on the cut quality, there’s sometimes a bow-shaped shadow in the center.

I have an ideal cut diamond and normally it sparkles like crazy. Last night thought it looked so grey when everyone asked to see it!

Thanks Ladies! Mine is just the same way. It can take on a grayish or greenish tone sometimes. It’s strange because in other lighting it is so, so clear and sparkly. It looks like a completely different stone! I’m not too worried about, but am glad to know that it’s not just me 🙂
