Is it the oval cut itself that he finds gaudy or the setting? An oval solitaire compared to that is a very different look, and I think that rose gold is going to highlight how much that style has going on.

I really love oval cuts, though, so I hope some people post real life pics!

I don’t think the one you chose is gaudy at all! It’s lovely.

I have an oval ruby. I never would have picked oval because I wanted an emerald cut gem, but my Fiance chose it. Now I love it!

@soon2bhis: I saw your PM, but I wasn’t able to post pics to private messages. I’m posting them here instead. It looks like you are looking more for a oval cut, but my ring may give you an idea of the type of setting you are looking for.

To give a quick background: I originally had a different engagement band, but I was unable to permanently size down the band to fit my finger! I just got the new band for my round solitare and absolutely love the plain band combined with the round halo setting (even has a pave split shank cage holding the diamond up)! I have been getting tons of compliments on it, so I’m a big proponent!

Ring Info:

1.00 Carat Solitare-Round Brilliant Cut stone

.29 carats on halo and split shank under the solitare

White Gold Band- Size 3.5

Happy ring shopping and keep us updated with your final ring choice! PS I think oval cut rings are beautiful and are not as common as other cuts thus making them unique! 🙂

*Sorry for the super lg. photos!!!

MedicJan , Your oval is stunning. You rarely see a solitaire oval these days (always in halos – which are stunning too!)

I was torn between a halo and stand alone solitaire.  LOVE halo’s but thought the diamonds on band would add enough extra sparkle. 🙂  And love the timeless classic look of single solitaire.  So many gorgeous rings out there….we should start new tradition of wearing one on each finger!! lol
