I had one of these once, ironically it developed when I went off the pill.  It wasn’t painful, but it was uncomfortable.  I also think it may have been on the smaller side.  The doc did an internal ultrasound to confirm.  Maybe a month or so later it burst.  That was somewhat painful.  This was probably 5 or 6 years ago and I haven’t had one since, even though I just went off the pill again.  Hopefully it’s nothing a little Advil won’t cure.

@Evie19: I had these symptoms at about 19 so went to the doctors as like you i’d looked it up online so was concerned it was a cyst. It wasn’t it’s just my bleedin hormones. So now I get waxed every 6 weeks! One of my best friends had two cysts one on each ovary about 3 years ago, and unfortunately one grew back on one ovary so now she’s only got one ovary. She said the pain was much worse than period pains. But obviously you’re best getting it checked out, hope all goes well.

I have ovarian cysts almost 24/7.  Your pain sounds like usual pain for a smaller ovarian cyst.

Of course the larger the cyst, the more uncomfortable and more painful.  Keep in mind that until you see your doctor regarding this, sex can irritate or burst this possible cyst.

A cyst bursting is quite possibly the most painful thing.  I hardly have words to describe it.

I have had 2 laproscopic surgeries to remove cysts that were actually pushing around my ovaries, but I get them really bad.

However in most cases they are small and will go away on their own.  Birth control is a good option if your body handles hormones well.

@Evie19:  Thanks!  Advil and heating pads are your best friends right now.

I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I have all same stuff you are experiencing that has gone on ever since I was a young lady.  I have never had normal periods, and the doctors first thought I had hypothyroidism, but I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago.  I have more hair than the normal woman does (upper lip, eyebrows, my chin), let’s just say I stay busy waxing.  I also get horrible cramps before my periods.  The doctor makes me take birth control pills to keep my period regular.  You might want to mention PCOS when you go to the doctor, it is very common.

@funkyone8604: Seconding that.

I was reading through your concerns and immediately thought PCOS – I have it as well and the symptoms sound the same. Right now my PCOS isn’t “full-blown” meaning I only have a few cysts that aren’t even worth operating on, so my OB just told me birth control (the hormones in it) will help keep it under control until we TTC or if it gets worse. It’s just something to monitor.

Excedrin helps the best (for me) and the BC REALLY helps with the pain as well. Good luck and hopefully you don’t have it, but if you do, know that it’s rather common and definitely fairly easy to live with. 🙂

I have had cysts on both my ovaries and on my fallopian tube. I got mine while on the birth control pill and I wouldn’t have gone to the doctor if sex hadn’t started to get pretty painful. I had surgery last January and am now on Depo Provera because I also have endometriosis.

I agree that it sounds like a small cyst and birth control should help.
