I overspent in the following areas:

  • Dress: Budgeted $750….spent $950
  • Photographer: Budgeted $1500…spent $1,900

I was able to save in the following areas:

  • Cake: Budgeted $250…paying about $100 (family friend who is good at cakes is doing it)
  • Flowers: Budgeted $400….decided to DIY, now spending $150
  • Venue: Budgeted $1,000….paid $650

Overall, I have increased my wedding budget by about $1,500 from original estimates. The plan is to stick to $7k and not go over 🙂

Well our initial “budget” was $25,000 however by the time it was all said and done we spent $75,000. Going in we had no idea how much things cost and we wanted something over the top.

Where I tried to save; dress (refused to spend over $2,000), favors, table numbers and bird cage card box (DIY projects).

Where we splurged; flowers ($8,000 budget), veil which cost way too much, food/alcohol, invites( $800).

Ahhhh, my poor budget which I blew twice due to my being naive of how much weddings cost.

Biggest ticket items I overspent on:

  • Dress, budgeted $2,000 spent $2,800
  • Videographer, budgeted $2,000 spent $4,000;
  • Shoes, budgeted $50, spent $800 (damn Choos for looking so good lol)

Things I saved on by DIY or negotiating with cash price:

  • Dessert bar, ring pillow, flowergirl baskets, lantern centerpieces at cost since my Maid/Matron of Honor made it or we assembled ourselves
  • Wedding programs, menus, and invititations, cost of supplies since Darling Husband made them
  • Wedding cake, negotiated $200 off by paying cash
  • Photography, negotiated $1000 off by paying cash
  • DJ, negotiated $300 off by paying cash and agreeing to refer services to friends
  • Photobooth, $250 off by using Groupon deal
  • Officiant costs, limo, rehearsal dinner, Tea Ceremony costs bc NIL and Father-In-Law paid for it
  • Alcohol, venue provided champagne to everyone and we were allowed to bring in our own liquor which we bought at vendor price through DH’s uncle who has a liquor license
  • Veil, wedding jewelry, and hair pieces by buying them at a consignment store
  • Reception dress, bought for $15 at clearance
  • Florist, saved $800 by providing the vases for the centerpieces that I borrowed from my sister, paying cash, and DIY flowers for the bridal party
  • Wedding bouquets and bouts my sister made for me at cost of flowers
  • Wedding bands which we negotiated $500 off
  • Thumbprint tree since Darling Husband painted it.

I have underspent on everything so far. Then again I am a pessimist who takes a worst-case-scenario view of just about everything, so if everything had cost what I was thinking it might, the wedding would probably have cost like 80 grand.

Photog: Was afraid it would be $4k. Ending up being $1300

Dress: Was thinking I wouldn’t be able to find anything I loved under $4k. By a twist of fate, it wound up being essentially free

Venue: Had budgeted up to about $3k for venue without catering or rentals. It is going to end up being about $2k.

We will see where things go from here. I am fearfully anticipating $9k for catering, $1k for flowers, $500 for DOC, $1k for DJ, and $1k for lighting.
