POP:

Over: Rihanna.  Lackluster voice, lackluster production.  All around lame.  And (though I don’t know why we do this so much) a terrible example for young people and her fans.  Just my 2 cents.

Under: Um Adele. Yes, awards, but I am sure most people wouldn’t recognize her and in the states her shows wouldn’t sell out.  I think her weight is the reason why she doesn’t get enough play sadly (and I don’t mean airplay).  Her people don’t do her justice either.  The “Rolling in the Deep” video is the worst showcase possible of an amazing song.

No! I have another! This is my definite!!!!  LEONA LEWIS.  Her voice is the next Whitney, Mariah, Celine and she (just like Christina before she went all crazy and lost her voice) does not get the recognition she deserves.

Gaga said something recently about her persona not being one, and being like that all the time.  The only response I had was “wow that must be tiring and tough on your hair/skin lol”.  I love older Gaga.  Each song that comes out I like a lil less.  She doesn’t have a classically good voice but I appreciate her music.  I just wish she’d tone down the crazy (especially with her inappropriate choice of clothing at her lil sis’ HS graduation…you shouldn’t have been the one in the spotlight dammit).

Under rated: Colbie Callait (spelling?). I love her voice, songs, etc. The station I listed to never plays her stuff, and I almost never see her on tv/award shows

Over rated: I have to agree with Gaga. Her songs are catchy, but her voice is overrated. From what I have read about her, she sounds like a very nice person. I wish she would tone it down a bit.

Over-rated: I agree with both of the above. Lady Gaga is actually the person who came to mind when I saw the thread title. I did really like The Fame and The Fame Monster because they were fun and easy to dance to, but Born This Way is shaping up to blow really hard. I’m over it.

Under: I SO agree with Adele. I am ridiculously obsessed with her. She’s seriously amazing. Actually, I really think she’s getting to a point where she’s getting big in the US. They play Rolling in the Deep on the radio and Ive heard some house remixes of it done at a club. My other one is The Black Keys. They are AWESOME but I feel like they’re almost unknown, despite a few music awards.

@zippylef:  When I saw your underrated group, all I thought was is this a mashup of the black eyed peas and alicia keys.  LOL!  I will have to check em out.

@Bostongrl25: Completely agree with you about Colbie Caillet! “Fallin’ For You” describes exactly how I felt when I met my Fiance and we grin at each other like idiots whenever “I Do” is playing.

Overrated – Ke$ha <barf> please, please, please someone make her shut up!

@Mrs.KMM: highly disagree on Sugarland. I loved them when they first started out but now they are waaay overplayed. I’m pretty sure everytime I get in the car they are on.

I think Lady Gaga can sing her ass off in front of a piano. Just my opinion though :).

I think Adele is underrated but she is getting a lot of much-deserved attention so maybe not for much longer.

I love Gaga. It is refreshing to hear a pop artist who actually writes their own music and can really dance! I am the kind of person that you put me in a room with music I can dance all night. But I can totally understand why some of you think she is overrated.

I actually can’t stand Pink. All of her songs annoy me. Katy Perry can’t sing either. I feel like she screams in all of her songs. She’s gorgeous though!

@heather25:

I really love Adele, but don’t think she is underrated at all. She is very highly rated right now and it was impossible to get tickets to her show even though I looked within an hour of their release.

I wholeheartedly agree about Rihanna.  Very inappropriate for her fans.  On our honeymoon cruise, there were about 10 little girls between the ages of 4 and 10 all on stage, requesting that the DJ play songs by Katy Perry like “I kissed a girl” and some of Rihanna’s dirtiest (i.e. Rude Boy), then they were all dancing around and trying to be provacative…while their parents were sitting right there drinking and ignoring them.  I know it’s not Rihanna or Katy Perry’s fault, but there should be more restrictions on what is played on the radio.

Love Adele.  Her voice is magical.  And I love Pink’s voice and attitude.  She rocks.

Agree about Kesha.  She is awful, in my opinion.  I also think Miley Cyrus is way overrated.  Her voice isn’t that good in my opinion.  Just another Disney darling gone Britney.

Make Rhianna go away. I’m sorry, but I am just…so….sick…of her. I’m so sick of her I cannot even think of someone I like right now. That S&M song makes me gag. I loved her when I was younger and she was catchy…but I cannot tolerate her nasty sex songs anymore. I change the station as soon as she comes on!

I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I didn’t realize how sick of her I was until I typed this!

@MrsPinkPeony: I’m with you on Sugarland. Played way too much on the radio. But I DEFINITELY agree with the OP on Taylor Swift. She needs to just go away. 🙂
