Mr. Vandykins and I knew from the beginning we didn’t want a traditional guestbook. Something that people would barely write in and then would sit on a shelf collecting dust. So i went to the internet looking for ideas. I liked the wish tree idea and the tree one’s with thumbprints.. started brainstorming and got all inspired until i knew exactly what I wanted.
A painting of a tree with branches with paper leaves that people would sign and then stick on the painting. (With those double sided glue dot thingies). Something i could hang on the wall and have forever.
I could have whipped up a simple tree on my own as I have some very basic panting skills, but my older sister is a true artist. So last year I went to her with the idea and described my vision. It was a looooooooong wait, and there were some stressful moments between us when she started to feel the pressure of making something that would be on display at my wedding.
I picked it up last night (with 9 days to go) and she was all annoyed at me and everything in general (she’s a RN who had just got off a bad 12 hour shift).
But the moment I saw it, i burst into tears of happiness, (i know.. i’m over emotional these days!!) and all her anger was washed away. Then we were both hugging and crying and i kept saying how beautiful it was. She completely got my vision.
OK, here is it. It’s about 3 ft tall and 2.5 ft wide.
She put most of the lovely detail in the bottom half as the top is going to be covered with leaves.
It’s done with water colors. And the pics don’t do the colors justice. It’s just beyond gorgeous. The way the yellows glow and fade out into a sunset twilight feel is exactly what i wanted. It’s like she could see right inside my brain.
I’m just the LUCKIEST SISTER IN THE WORLD.
She framed it for me with glass, so there’s a bit of reflection coming through. But i’m going to remove the glass for the wedding, and i’m not sure if it will fit back on after all the leaves get added, so we’ll see.
I just can’t WAIT for the wedding! WAHHHHHH!

@Little_Hedgy: Thanks!! Mew mew! I’m hoplessly in love with cats and cat noises and i use them alot. I real life, personal life, writing and even at work >< All i need is some more grey hair and a few more cats and I will officially be a crazy cat lady. ^^
And since we’re on the subject of cats. Chibi had to get all up in the painting when I was taking pics of it!

@JenGirl: Thanks! I’ll pass along the kind compliments.
She’s an RN full time/mum so she does art to wind down and relax. She’s not just a painter, but a quilter, sewer, knitter, potter, etc etc. She’s one of those annoying people who can do anything and be perfect at it! But i never mind that too much since i umm,, tend to benefit from it ~_~
She also knit me a wedding shawal that I haven’t had time to post. She’s just crazy talented.
@bleusteel: Thanks so much! I’m just so stoked. I’ve got it packed away, but i keep coming back to look at the pictures.

I can’t wait for the wedding either (date twin)!!! Also, I am totally a crazy cat lady without any cats, but I’ve made it fairly clear to my sweetie that he should get me a couple shelter / free kittens as my wedding gift, so I think that’s going down in September, WOOHOO!!!!
