NYbride85:  There are some off the coast of Belize and Panama, but they’re not the same type of overwater bungalow that you’ll see in the South Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Likely not… Unless you go off season or stay for a shorter period of time.

There are some barebones eco-friendly type over water bungalows in Belize. I’m not sure what the total cost woild be. $5k total for 10 days doesnt seem feasible but I would do some research on the ones near Central America for sure!!

I would look somewhere in Central America like others have suggested. Also, off season maybe.

NYbride85:  Is the 5k including airfare? You can get more bang for your buck with hotels in places like Thailand, Malaysia or the Philippines. Gorgeous beaches too!

NYbride85:  I went to the Maldives for my honeymoon (also departing from NY) and it wasn’t as expensive as we thought. I realize this may still be over your budget, and you decided to save Maldives for your anniversary, but we stayed at Reethi Beach Resort (booked through agoda) and it was $2,500 for 7 nights in a water bungalo there. This included breakfast only, not drinks, other meals, transportation, etc. We loved this resort and the Maldives, just don’t use Emirates to fly there (they were awful and made us miss the first night of our honeymoon!)

NYbride85:  I went to Maldives (the resort’s name was Lux) for my honeymoon in the off season and it was $5,200 for 7 days, all inclusive of food, drinks and bunglow. (Not including flights) We chose to go in May which is considered the stormy season but it was gorgeous clear skies and perfect weather every single day. It rained REALLY HARD most nights from midnight – 4/5am but it’s not like you’re wandering around the island in the middle of the night so it had no effect on our trip. We priced the same trip for November it came out to $12,000! So def look into off season prices.

NYbride85:  You’re welcome! We did our layover in Dubai. I’ve always wanted to see Dubai (and I have a good friend who lives there), so we spent three days there on our way back. Emirates is the main airline of Dubai though, so I recommend Turkish Airlines and doing your layover in Istanbul. I think that 7 days is enough exluding the travel time. Expect travel to take two full days.
