So on Saturday Mr. Narwhal and myself went cake tasting to a semi-well known bakery called “For Heaven’s Cakes”…the cakes were okay..I mean they were certainly edible but not THAT great. I called ahead of time to make sure they were in our budget, they said that starting, a plain 4 tier would be about $400…which I was totally fine with..heck I was even willing to go up to $600.
Anyway, the baker finally got around to calling me today with a quote…$850. $850 for 100 guests for a 3 tier buttercream with no special design?? REALLY? Thanks, but no thanks…let the tasting continue (at other bakeries)!!

That is pretty ridiculous by my standards! Jeez. Our three-tier buttercream (WITH design) is less than $400 from a good baker. We’re getting it for $250 because Fiance used to work there, but normally I think it’s $375-ish.
Then again, I’m in GA and you’re in CA. World of difference in prices. Lol. Good luck and ENJOY! Good wedding cake is the best.

Thats ridiculous!! You can get a better priced AND better tasting cake somewhere else!! Good for you for moving on- plus, you get to try MORE cake at other tastings! YAY CAKE!!

Yea…she said that though it looked simple..that the “design” was more complicated…uhhh no..
it would have looked very similair to this..only white and 3 tier.

@MsNarwhal: That sounds crazy… Have other quotes in your area been that bad?
By the way we’re cake twins. : ) Mine will only be a 1 tier cake for cutting though. I’m going to have to see what my baker says about that being complicated when I show it to her in a few weeks.

Wowzers, that’s nuts! And we thought our 120 person cake with three layers was expensive at $350!

That is crazy our cakes are delicious and we have a 4 tier cake that serves 150 and a grooms cake that serves 50. I designed it myself and its pretty detailed and for both its 517 and some change.. with tax. Keep looking that place was a rip. Good luck. At least you get to taste more cake!!! 🙂

Oh you can try for a better price. Try out skiff’s. That’s our baker. It’s delicious and it’s close to you. I also heard pastries by vreeke is good. They both have better reviews on weddingwire than your place.

UM NOOOOOOOO!! A BUTTERCREAM cake should not cost $850. We paid like, $206 for a three tier buttercream to feed 70. (Two desserts are served with dinner, we thought most people would eat those so we only got enough cake for 2/3 the guests.)
