I started going dress shopping last weekend and I’m overwhelmed! None of these dresses I’m in love with so have cried over (which is kind of what I’m waiting for since I’m a pretty emotional person!). I’m including the prices of dresses just so you know what they’d end up costing and if it’s worth paying more. The first 3 dresses were from a sample sale today and if I wanted to get them, I’d have to make my decision by Monday or they might be gone.
(What I’m looking for: Dress under $1k (not including alterations, but I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on them), A-line/Ballgowns, lace detail, some sort of color underneath the top layer, romantic vibe)
1. Pronovias Onia. Orginally $2,810 on sale for $999. This is a sample sale dress so I would have to buy it in this size. It’s too tight in the bust and a family friend seamstress quoted a price of around $300 to make the back fit. So it would end up being closer to $1300 not including regular tailoring

2. Kenneth Winston style BE395. Originally $1100 on sale for $499. I’m not a huge fan of the straps. They make me feel old (and I shouldn’t feel old at 25 lol)

3. Pronovias Devany. Orignially $2800 on sale for $999. I’m also not a huge fan of these straps. I would probably thin them out.

4. Davids Bridal WG3861. $849. The top is too low and would obviously be covering my boobs more lol

I like the 3rd dress on you but it doesn’t seem as though you love any of them so I think you should keep looking.

Have you tried non-lace dresses? Different silhouettes? Different fabrics? All of these dresses are very similar. Maybe one hasn’t stuck out as the one because this isn’t actually the style you want.
I do love #3 on you but you need to love your dress so I think you should keep looking.

I like 3 and 4. But as someone else mentioned you should try a bunch of styles shapes textures out. For me I tried some really pretty dresses on but was sad it didn’t have lace so I knew I had to have that. Don’t buy a dress if you don’t like a feature about it that can’t be easily changed. If you don’t like straps don’t get a dress with big straps.

I like dress 2 which looks very flattering and not ‘old’ at all. Number 3 is very pretty too. Definitely not number 1.

Idk I love #2 on you, it shows off your figure, you look regal and glamorous in it to me!

I like dress 3, it’s super flattering and really different and lovely. Do you ‘love’ any of them??

I love everything about the first one. Super elegant and the way the dress is cut seems to give you a longer and leaner “line”. Given how much you are saving, I wouldn’t hesitate to spend the extra $300 on the back alteration. Prnovias dresses are top quality and the whole look of that dress oozes quality. The colour is perfect on you too.

I really love dress #2, it’s gorgeous and very flattering on you. I definitely don’t think it looks “old” but very much understand how you feel, I’m the same age as you and absolutely love lace but felt old in every full lace dress I tried on for some reason! You don’t seem to love any of them so definitely keep looking till you find one that you feel excited about (don’t worry if you don’t cry though – I’m very emotional and I didn’t when I found mine!) 🙂

I think the straps suit your figure and like #3 and #2 in that order. A large part of why I think the straps suit you is because you are rather large busted and the v-neck style is more flattering to that than strapless sweetheart, particularly since you have less broad and more rounded shoulders which can make you look like you are slouching even if you aren’t (I have the same problem). It allows you to show off an asset without making them the entire show – it looks flattering and balanced. I realize neither is fitted to you, but I think strapless sweetheart on a large chest can sometimes make your bust look larger and like you are putting them on a shelf for display.
But if you aren’t really that jazzed about any of them (and warning: you may not cry – lots of people don’t because at the end of the day it is clothes shopping), then don’t rush into it. Have you tried on any other styles? Generally v-neck and sweetheart will be more flattering on a larger bust, but maybe try pairing the sweetheart with sleeves or straps or sleeveless but different silhouette or style. For instance a less detailed fabric (like plain satin) or mermaid with a more form fitted bodice to help balance it out. The two strapless ones pictured hide your waist.

I love 2 on you. It’s very flattering and accentuates your waist beautifully. I do not get an “old” vibe from the straps at all. I really think this is a great style for you but if you don’t like the dress maybe try on different variations of something similiar.

I think the nicest one on you is 1, but I don’t think any of these dresses do your figure justice, and you can find something better.
If you don’t have that feeling about any one of them, keep looking. You will have that feeling when you find the dress.

First of all, thank you so much to all of you who have given their opinion. It has really helped me! And thank you for being so kind. I’m really self-conscious and was hesitant putting pictures of myself on here.
After speaking to my Mom for 2 hours over the phone, we like #1 & #3 best. We also realized why #1 looks bad in my waist area: the lace on the veil hits in a spot that makes my waist is larger than it is! So I’m including more pictures of #1 so you can see it better.
Also, let me know if you would prefer #3 with the straps the way they are, more thin, or gone (I would obviously have to add material to the back if it were strapless because the back is low)
ETA: I will be going back to the bridal salon on Tuesday to see if I like them more!

That is such a pretty dress. The lace is gorgeous. I agree with you about the straps on #3. They are thicker than I would want, too. I’m just not sure how easy it would be to alter that kind of lace.

I actually like #1 best after your new photos 🙂 A little bit of fit and flare suits you I think.
