If you’re ovulating, do you need the Ovidrel? Ovidrel induces ovulation… What did your RE say?

happybee15:  I’m starting clomid and ovidrel next cycle and I was told that they’ll tell me when to take the shot based on an ultrasound. Are you doing IUI or timed intercourse? That might make a difference…

happybee15:  I’m not sure why you would be using Ovidrel if you are currently ovulating. The way it works is by inducing ovulation, prior to your own hormonal LH surge. If you get a positive OPK, you have already surged and ovulation should occur….Ovidrel will effectively be useless at this point. I have to agree with your clinic’s on call Dr. Unless you were monitored after using Clomid, there is no way to time the trigger shot……

ETA: I just saw your latest post. If you have an appointment for monitoring on Wednesday, they will tell you when to take the shot based on follicle size. If you were told your follies weren’t big enough to trigger, you probably aren’t ovulating.

I agree with BeverlyGeese:  if they are monitoring your follicle sizes and your next appt is Wednesday , you’re likely not ovulating right now. What cycle day are you and when was your last ultrasound?

happybee15:  In the future I would find out the exact measurements of your follicles during an US. They grow approx. 1-3mm/day and you can better figure out when to trigger yourself in the future (ususally once they reach 18mm). The problem I see with a positive OPK is that if your follicles were still small/not close to mature, you can get a false positive LH surge and then the trigger will be pointless because you will not get pregnant with eggs that are not mature. Just my two cents. I’ve been dealing with infertility for 2 years now and have a lot of experience with the TI cycles, IUI’s, ultrasounds etc and of course I only want the best for your outcome and trying to share my knowledge.
