Aside from doing to kits and charting (neither of which I do currently), how do you know if you are ovulating? I’ve never in my life had any sort of discharge to indicate ovulation. Also since going off of the pill in December, I have short (24 day) cycles and when AF comes, it lasts maybe a day or two and is really light. AAnyone else have anything similar?

There really isn’t anyway to know without charting/having some symptom.
Discharge isn’t the only way to tell, there is also cervix position (high/open or low/closed) and “texture” (firm or soft). Being on the pill will alter your cervical fluid, so I think paying attention to it could make a big difference. For me the most reliable way to tell if I’ve ovulated is just temping in the mornings, it’s an easy and simple way for me to keep track and make sure that things are functioning normally.
Is there a reason you don’t chart? I highly recommend reading Taking Charge Of Your Fertility… It was very eye opening and informative about what goes on during your cycle. I found it fascinating.

I’ve never had discharge (I hate that word) to show I’m ovulating.
I really think the only way to KNOW is to chart – that is why my doctor is having me chart. The OPK’s will tell you the hormones are there but it doesn’t confirm you actually ovulated.
OPK’s and checking cervical mucus (CM) will give you a good idea of when y ou are fertile, but they aren’t foolproof
