So my wife and and I are trying to test my ovulation cycle so we can narrow down the day I actually ovulate. I take my basal temp every morning and started the ovulation test strips about five days ago. My body is showing all the signs of ovulation but the tests are coming up negative every day. I have regular periods going between 30-33 day menstruation cycles. So I figure I have about a 3 day grace period. I’m just really frustrated because we finaly got to the point where we’re wanting to conceive and I am anxious to find out if my eggs are actually showing up monthly. Sigh…any advice? I read I should test in the evening, is that true? I only test it once a day, should I do it twice?

are you testing at different times during the day? the surge can be short and hard to catch. also make sure you aren’t drinking too much water and dilluting your urine from picking up the lh hormone. the surge can last as little as 12 hours. how long have you been charting? you can also use your temp spike as an indication if your cycles are farily regular and you notice a partular day. are you doing IUI or inseminating on your own? i know with that catching the right time is vital so i would test 2 or 3 times a day from CD 10 or so. i get mine usually firts thing in the morning but some get them afternoon or eve.

We are doing at home insemination to start, definitely want to do it on the RIGHT day so we don’t waste a couple hundred bucks, lol! I’ve been charting only this month so far. My temp hasn’t gone up steadily and remains pretty much the same. On day 17 of my cycle now. I think I’ll go test it again this evening. I usually do the ovulation test strip at 11am or noon. Thanks for the advice!

The ovulation strips I use suggest you use them from 12-8pm, as the LH surge can sometimes happen later in the day. It also suggests you refrain from drinking liquids before the test, so results aren’t diluted – maybe you could try that!
I’ve been charting for months and I still can’t get a good reading on Ovulation. It doesn’t happen naturally for me, but even when it DOES, the OPK tests don’t always pick up anything. Keep charting and keep trying – maybe you could add in temping & checking your CM to help you focus on when O is gearing up in your body?

Got what looks like a positive test this a.m. Started testing 3x a day yesterday and the positive test line kept getting darker until this morning. My BBT showed I went up .28 this morning, so I guess that makes sense. I’ve been hyper aware of my CM and it aggravated me when my body looked like it was ready to ovulate but my tests weren’t showing it. I’m trying to test for 3 months first before we TTC. Here’s hoping!!
