alice88 :  I have Ava and I love it.  I’m one of those people who need to temp and chart to confirm o (so I can relax lol), but I hated the stress of taking my temp orally and at exactly the same time and after 4 h of uninterrupted sleep etc.

Ava is very easy to use, seems incredibly accurate and when I put the Ava temps into ff they are right on par with o prediction.  I also like the HR and RR functions and they also increase in LP to help confirm o.

It is expensive though, but there are coupons you can get from people who have it to save $20.  I don’t know what ovusense is

I use Ovusense & really love it!  It’s been extremely accurate for me.. only downside is that it’s fairly expensive since you have to pay for the app as well as the monitor.  I almost went with the Ava but I’m a really light sleeper and knew that wearing it all night long would bother me.  I’ve tried sleeping with a fit bit on before & it drove me nuts

alice88 :  this is my third month using ava

i read up in ovusense and nope, no way. It would totally kill the mood for spontaneous middle of the night sex. And just having to wash and clean it before uploading the data seems like a pain.

It’s not the absolute temperature that matters, it’s the ability of the monitor to identify real trends. I don’t know if one would be “more accurate” than the other. If you can’t sleep with a watch on, Ava wouldn’t be for you. If you don’t want something in your vag overnight, ovusense wouldn’t be for you

I JUST learned about OvuSense earlier today and my immediate reaction was NO THANK YOU to something in my vagina overnight. That just seems like it will be unsexy and more mess than I care to deal with first thing in the morning.

I have Ava, and have just used it for 1 full cycle. The thing with Ava is it takes skin temp which is different from BBT. It’s lwoer than BBT and it’s also more variable. So the main frustration I see for most users is that it just takes a while for the app to “get to know” you and how your various parameters shift before it’s able to accurately “predict” ovulation.

But a lot depends on your mindset. I feel like a lot of people who buy Ava have already been TTC for months, if not years, and they feel frustrated more easily.

I have it to get to know my body before TTC, so I’m happy as a clam just sitting back and waiting a few cycles before it becomes accurate.

FWIT, the Ava app chart interface is pretty hard to read b/c you can’t zoom in on any one of the parameters. For this reason, a lot of users plug their Ava temps into Fertility Friend, along wtih CM and OPK’s. FF had me (correctly, I believe) ovulating on CD 14. Ava still has me ovulating on CD17. I’m curious to see if it will get better after a few more cycles.

alice88 :  I would guess it’s probably the more accurate of the two, but as anev mentioned it’s the overall trend that’s most important.  For me at least, it’s really not messy at all & washing it in the morning only takes a few seconds.  And I like my sleep, so no middle of the night action for me anyway!  haha  The app isn’t fanastic, so I input all of my temps on FF as well..

I think it just comes down to whichever you’d be more comfortable wearing every night

alice88 :  here’s my screen shot from today. Ava measures heart rate, breathing rate, temp, and stress level (regularity of pulses while sleeping). During your fertile window your HR and RR should increase a little before the temp shift (where I am right now). I usually o on cd17-19, but based on subtle changes Ava is predicting cd15 today (which EWCM and opk support as well). I’m curious I may have ovulated overnight already (seeing HR jump this am), and it does take a little lag for P to be produced after o (which causes the temp shift). The only complaint I have is nowhere to put opk in, but Ava functions only on your physiologic parameters (I have no idea if ovusense measures HR and RR?). We also frequent middle of the night sex, so there’s no way I could ever use ovusense!!

I’ll post a few more images of past cycles in next post. Also the first cycle is a little more “wonky” showing more peaks and valleys in chart… until it gets to know your body.

alice88 :  here is a screen shot of temp history with the averages in the bottom. You can see the average HR and RR and sleep etc.

but if you get Ava definitely use a coupon for $20 off!

I’ve beein using an Ava since end of June and so far so good (though not yet pregnant!). Just a heads up I really debated buying one as well because of the price so I got a pre-owned one off of Ebay that still had all the original packaging. Paid $158 with shipping πŸ™‚  There are tons of them listed, just have to be patient and swoop in at the right time.

I don’t have experience with either of these, but I’ve been using the Natural Cycles app for 2 cycles now and it’s been very easy to use. I just take my temp in the morning before I get up, so it’s low hassle. If I know there’s a reason my results are likely to be skewed (sleeping significantly more or less than usual, having drunk the night before) I just skip entering data for that day or enter it as a “deviating temp”. Like duchessgummybunns, though, I’m not TTC yet, so I’m just using Natural Cycles to get to know my body better off birth control so that I’ll be more in tune with my body and more prepared when I do want to TTC down the line. It’s $79 for a 1 year subscription and a thermometer, so it sounds like it’s a bit cheaper than these options.
