Are you on any type of hormonal birth control?

Also does it vary during the month in relation to your cycle?

    Do you feel any lumps?

I have fibrocystic breasts, which can be troublesome like you mentioned. Give it a google and see if it relates to you. and then def. see a doctor regardless!

oh yeah.  Ever since I started “that time of the month” when I was about 11.  My dr says it’s nothing to worry about.  I’m 42

It ranges from very light twinges to sharp pains.  Sometimes they are so heavy and painful that I have to wear a bra to bed.

I’ve had mammograms and everything just to be sure.  I guess some of us just have to deal with stuff like this.  I’m a 34D

I actually saw my OB/GYN for this a few months ago. She said that BC can increase breast tenderness. She felt me up, said they feel normal, take Vitamin D, and drink less caffeine because that irritates it. She’s not worried about it at all. Mine is only one one side in one spot, but those suggestions make it better. It’s been months, and still not gone, so I just don’t poke it. Hahaha.

I don’t have nearly as large of girls as you do so I can’t comment on if it’s due to that at all.  However, I have had a similar issue in the past – thought it only lasted a few months and happened to be around the time I switched BC.  I would suggest stopping your BC for a few months and see if that helps?

Yup! My BC aggravates it. and as another PP said caffeine can also increase it for some. I have played around with pills on occasion , but sometimes its like my boobs are being stabbed- random sharp pains. then other times its like a dull ache. And sometimes all I want to do is massage them…LOL Too Much Information but when they feel heavy and are sore its the only thing that gives me some relief.

My doctor told me that mine were lumpy too, and the legit term is fibrocystic.

I’m going to switch to an all progesterone method of BC because I guess the estrogen is strongly connected to the issue.

If it helps, mine are really big too (34DDD) so that might be part of it. Your own hormones might have changed, changing the balance with your BC. If you aren’t convinced it’s that, see your GYN, and she’ll feel for a cyst. Even if it is a cyst (which it probably isn’t), those aren’t a big deal. They usually just hurt, then go away.

@O.My.Heart:  We get the brush off in the USA too – it’s not your free healthcare, I think it’s just overburdened docs not wanting to deal with stuff that’s usually not a big deal!

I have the same issue, but only on one side, and only sometimes. DOctor said it’s not a big deal ๐Ÿ™‚

I also have fibrocystic breasts (i.e. lots of tissue.)  I have been told that caffeine can cause them to ache which seems plausible since they tell you to lay off caffeine for a few days before a mammogram to reduce pain.  I’ve also been told it’s from the hormones in birth control pills; sorry taking a pill every day keeps me from getting preggers so stopping that isn’t an option.  It’s pretty much evenly achy on both sides so I don’t worry about it.
