I severly broke my index finger nail a few weeks ago and leaving the bandaid on was the best advice, given to me by my mother. i ignored her and IT GOT WORSE– which i thought was impossible due to the severity fo the break. so i say ice cream + a ton of bandaids because they will come off multiple times a day from handwashing.

Keep up with the super glue and clear nail polish. If you can pick up some folic acid and biotin pills that will help the nail to grow quicker. Also, at local salons they make a nail treatment that is clear (orange horse on the front) that helps nails to grow quickly as well.

I tore off my pinky nail completely and it grew back to a length that allowed another acrylic nail within eight weeks using the treatments mentioned.

I do this all the time. Finger tip bandaids definitely help. If you don’t like the look you can use clear polish and kleenex and superglue. Divide the layers of a kleenx so you have 1 ply, tear off a small corner, just slightly larger than the area of the broken nail. Put a small dab of super glue on the nail and while it’s still wet, put the piece of kleenex on it. Repeat with clear polish. Trim any edges of kleenex that are sticking out over your skin with cuticle clippers, buff the nail gently with the rough side of a 4 way buffer (not the nail filing side, but the other roughest one) to smooth it down. If it still doesn’t seem secure enough you can add a few more layers of kleenex and polish or superglue, depending on how much more security you think you need, and re-do the light buffing. Then coat with 2 coats of clear polish. It will look different than your other nails, depending on how many pieces of kleenex you put on, but it won’t look as bad as a bandaid. I’d really only recommend the kleenex/polish/superglue if you have some sort of major event coming up. Looks like your wedding is in 2 weeks so I’d say go the bandaid option, your nail should hopefully be grown out enough by then for the salon to do something about it. you may want to see if they can do a gel on it on the day of.

Oh my god. I was gesticulating wildly the other morning before I left for work (uh, talking to FI) and managed to smack my hand on the wall…and broke off half of my index finger nail.

We should go out for broken nail ice cream together.

@LindsayMaree:  So at work this morning, I was looking at my poor nail (that I had cut down to match more closely with the broken side), and not only had I broken off part of it to the quick, I’d split the rest of it all the way across so I had a bottom and top layer. Awesome.

I was googling for some sympathy and misery loves company so let me just thank you ladies because I have gone into bride depression stress zone.

I am 5 weeks away and while cleaning i bent my acrylics backward – 2 acrylics just popped off but my middle finger had the acrylic pop off and removed half my nail with it.

After a 10 year fake nail additiction I now have nothing but a piece of skin and am praying I can grow enough nail back to have a acrlyic put back on.

I am taking pre-natals if anyone else has suggestions please let me know. Anyone ever have a fake nail on skin??????

Nailess bride – 5 weeks to go!
