I’ve been off birth control pills for 7 months now and since stopping, my periods have been ridiculously painful. So much that usually the first day or two I can’t stand doing much of anything besides staying curled up in bed or on the couch. Before going on the pill a few years ago and even during, I had never experienced a painful period. Has anyone here experienced this?

How long have you been on BC? Sometimes it can mask problems like endometriosis. You should get yourself to a doctor to see if you have any of these issues because it can affect TTC as well.

Oh jeez! I was on the pill for about four years.

It sounds like it could be endometriosis. I agree with MrsSaltWaterTaffy:. I’d see a doctor about it, a OBGYN or RE if possible, unless you really love your doctor. Many Primary Doctor’s will blow it off, but pain like that is not normal. It took me over a decade to get taken seriously/diagnosed with endometriosis. It can cause issues TTC, even in mild cases too.

It might be something you should discuss with your doctor. But i can tell you that birth control really reduces your PMS symptoms. My cramps are 10 times worse now that i am off BC.

I was on BC for over 10 years, and after getting off it I had horribly painful periods. They were also crazy heavy and I was bleeding through everything. After a year or so they’ve finally started to clam down. Also, my ovulations are extremely painful every other month, which I heard is because I’m releasing multiple eggs. Midol works miracles.

Thank you ladies! I wasn’t sure if this was normal but sounds like i’m definitely not overreacting! I really hope it doesn’t come down to endometriosis. 🙁 I have Hashimoto’s and know that it can cause some issues with TTC as well.

yes, I was on BC for 10+ years, the last 2 years I only had AF every 3 months.
when i went off BCP in June 2013 and got AF for the first time without BCP, i forgot how painful cramps were. I hadn’t experienced that in a long time. now I’m used to it and it doesn’t seem as bad as it did those first few cycles.
