Okay so we have a really small 2 bedroom house. our living room is really tiny and every wall in the house is white. So we figured now the wedding is over & the holidays are over we are ready to paint this place! maybe get new flooring (dogs ruined our carpet) we might just end up putting tile in the living room and getting a big area rug.
but painting first, our couches are dark brown microfiber & our carpet is a light tan. we have a big burgandy ( dark red) area rug. I want to paint maybe a light brown and one wall a dark color.. maybe shooting for a dark red or dark brown. what would look better? and how do you know which wall to make the different colored one?

This is some pretty good info that may help.
If the room is really tiny, painting a whole room in a darker color can either close it in (if there’s little natural light), or turn it into something pretty great. I guess it depends on how much of a risk you’re willing to take. The problem can lie with the largest pieces of furniture in the room. You never want it all to blend in, but can break up large expanses of color with accents like lighting, pillows, pictures, etc
I also feel that way about accent walls. Many people don’t get them, and I find them distracting ,especially in small rooms. Hope you find a color you like and love the results. Good luck!

here is a picture…. not very good ignore my alien doggie. we also plan on getting rid of the blinds and putting curtians all around. even one to cover the airconditioner since its not always in use.

@ItWasntMe: i am all for dark colors 🙂 just need to convince my husband.
I actually wanted to paint all a dark red and keep everything else brown and get rid of the red carpet for a different one.

Do you have any other pictures of the whole room from a distance? Where are the walls and the windows?

Look at these pictures! Almost what you have and can give you some ideas.
It’s great to have vision, but it always helps to have visuals too.

shades of green would go well and bring in a bright large feeling while providing color. Like the key lime below? and then in the other rooms other colors that have the same saturation of color. Or different shades of the same color in different rooms, like the water sprout and celery ice in the bedrooms.

Dark colours make spaces seem visually smaller. So if the space is already small, be prepared for the illusion of less space with a dark colour.
