I’m just wondering if anyone else painted the nursery or just rooms in their home while pregnant. We are moving to a new apartment that needs some paint love and I’m getting nothing but problems about it.
I would absolutely wear a mask so that I’m not inhaling any paint fumes… and I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal as long as I take precautions…

I haven’t painted anything yet, but I’ve read that it’s fine. Just ventilate the room well as you normally would. From what I understand, the potential danger from fumes is to you, the mother, not to the baby.

@Mrs.GtoBe: You should be fine.

@Mrs.GtoBe: Its up to you and how you judge the risks. Personally I am pregnant and I wouldn’t do it, but thats just me. I just think even with a mask you will be breathing in a lot of chemicals that in my mind are avoidable. Its a completely personally choice though 🙂

I painted/refinished the dresser and the rocking chair for the nursery when I was 7/8 months pregnant. I wore a cloth over my face to block fumes and opened all the windows.

I didn’t pain rooms or anything when I was preggo, but I’m an oil painter and it helped keep my blood pressure down. I was always wound up and painting would help.
But I would always paint outside and with a mask to make sure the fumes weren’t being inhaled.
If you paint, keep all the doors and windows open to let the house continuously be aired out maybe get a fan and aim it outside to pull the air out and wear a mask and I think you’ll be alright

Don’t forget to use a low VOC paint. 🙂

I actually just asked my OB that same question last week! I planned on using the no VOC paint and opening windows. She still told me not to do it. But still use no/low VOC

I have a doctor’s appointment on Thursday so I guess the best thing to do would be to ask him… I just felt like the mothers were overreacting a little.
Thanks for all the insight!! 🙂
