I’m 8 weeks along. My nesting got the best of me today and my impatient self decided to paint a 5 ft DIY gallery ledge hubby made for me. He offered to paint it but without even thinking that it could be bad for me I threw on a respirator mask from lowes and stained them painted away. The paint was leftover from when my house was built and the label is rubbed off so I have no clue if it was latex or oil based paint. After the fact I started researching and realized what I did was not smart and that the mask does not protect you from fumes, only particles etc. I did do this project outside in my garage w the door open. Should I be concerned or an I over worrying ?

Sanola831– I think as long as you were outside and not inside while you were doing this you should be fine and I wouldn’t worry too much.

I think you’ll be fine. I recently painted some dresser hardware with very smelly spray paint while in the garage with the door open.
If you want to paint anything else, I’d suggest purchasing some zero VOC paint. 🙂

What’s done is done, so don’t stress. Personally, i’d leave that work for my Darling Husband.

Paint and Pregnancy: What if I have been exposed to paint already?
Currently, there are no studies that document harm to the baby during normal and incidental exposure to paint (i.e. painting a room). The only studies that note a potential for miscarriage and malformations has to do with the higher levels of exposure through recreational use (sniffing and inhaling regularly).
If you have been exposed to paint, rest assured that the likelihood of any problems is low. According to the FDA, today’s paints do not contain lead and are probably not dangerous. Let your health care provider know of any paint exposure and together you can discuss the potential risk.”
You’ll be fine.

I almost posted this exact question! We bought a house, and we’re re-painting just about every room in the house before we move in. I spent some time today staining the cabinets, and while it was only for about an hour, I was still a little worried about the paint fumes.
I read the link, and while I will limit my exposure, I’m not nearly as panicked as I was. Hubby was worried that paint was extremely dangerous. I think we’ll be okay!
