My nails are very weak and peel all the time due to rigorous hand washing at my job.  I had no choice but to get acrylics for the big day,  otherwise my hands would be atrocious.  If your nails are good then diy! I did my  own pedicure in burgundy color to match some  of my flowers

I’ll be doing my own nails!  Nails just aren’t important to me though, so I can’t see spending any money on them.  I’ll just be using a very light pinkish/nude color that I already own.

I don’t think I have ever looked at someone’s nails and thought, OMG She must have done those herself, she is soooooo cheap. As long as you don’t pick a fugly color or get it all over your cuticles, no one is going to care. Not even worth worrying about!

I don’t know why painting your own nails would be a bad idea. I always do my own nails! It saves SO much money. No one will be looking that closely, and if they happen to be ultra nosey and judgemental, then they’ve got other problems to sort out ๐Ÿ˜›

I’m going to paint my own nails, mostly because I’m not the type of person who is comfortable spending money on manicures and because I don’t see when I’ll have the time to go. I know they won’t look 100% neat and tidy in the photos of our ring exchange and any detail shots involving our rings, but I’m OK with that. I picked out a pretty pink when Target was having a beauty sale last November, so I’m all set.

maritimebride2016:  You don’t have to get fake nails if you go to a nail salon. There are plenty of nail bars that paint your natural nails. If you don’t have steady hands it may be best to get pampered and getan expert to do it. It doesn’t have to be fake nails or not getting your nails done at all. It may be best to get them shaped as well if you go in!

maritimebride2016:  I painted my own nails but that’s only because I’m a nail polish addict and am very picky about how they are done. If you are good at doing your own nails (i.e. Smooth coats, no smudging, clean cuticles, etc) then go for it! Otherwise, you could have a professional mani done with just regular polish and top coat, no need for gel polish or acrylics

I painted my own nails for my wedding.  I have the same problems with acrylics and gel manicures (why do they peel off my nails so quickly?!), so I went with the option that would last the longest for me.  I have found that polishes with a little bit of glitter or using glitter polish as a top coat sometimes makes my nails last a little longer without chipping.

If you’re very good at it, then why not? The only thing I’d add is that there are a lot of close-up photos taken of your hands (to show off rings and whatnot) and people grabbing your hand and demanding to see your bridal set so if you think you’re going to feel a way about a tiny bit of polish on your cuticle (for example), maybe just swing by a salon and pay the $10?

One of my bridesmaids is a nail tech and always does my nails (gel overlays) she’ll more than likely be doing them for my wedding too.

Nothing wrong with painting your own nails aslong as you do it well but honestly I’d rather go for gel for the smoother, more professional looking finish and less chance of the colour chipping or even worse, a nail breaking.

EDIT: recently gel polish has been peeling off my nails quicker than usual so I switched to hard gel and its brilliant!

If you’re good at doing your own nails, I say go for it! I did my own nails and toes. Gel polish on my fingers, regular matching polish on my toes.

I suggest using Gelous as a base coat and Seche Vite as a top coat. It’s a little pricier but will last you a long time. Feels like gel nails without the cost of getting them done at the salon.

I got mine from Amazon.

I’ll be painting my own nails. I paint my nails every week and I am very particular about how they are done so I’m going to paint them a nude/pink OPI colour I already have probably the night before or so.

But in answer to your question, if you feel like you can do a good job on your own nails then more power to you! No one will think you’re being cheap! ^^
