DH has not had an issue with his, but obviously his is a much wider band.

Was it maybe resized by someone who wasn’t super familiar with palladium? Only a few jewelers in our area would do it.

I have only had my ering a year but it’s undamaged. Palladium was described to me as difficult for jewelers to work with because its prone to breakage during manufacturing, but that once its cold and solid it’s “much stronger” than 18k+ gold. I would expect your jeweler to warranty that type of failure.

Jazzylove :  maybe they only sell 14k gold which is reinforced with other metals? Gold also loses material over time and requires plating while palladium does not. My fiances gold e-ring has about a million times more wear and has actually changed color over the last year. Nothing is stronger than platinum though, I wonder if they’re hoping to upsell you because the market cost of gold & platinum are up right now.

This is one of the problems with palladium if worked with incorrectly.  You should ask if the band was cast in this size, or sized and then sent to you.  Either way I would want the band replaced.  It is already brittle.

Jazzylove :  Hello, Bee.  I feel your pain.  I posted here several weeks ago with an almost identical situation, except that I only had my ring for 2.5 MONTHS before it cracked, and the crack in mine went the whole way through the band.

I did send the ring back to MCo for repair and it took about 2 weeks before it was returned to me.  The cost of repair was listed on the invoice as $325 even though the original setting was only $260 and the ring was still under warranty.  As of now, a bill has not been sent to Fiance for the repairs.

Like you, I didn’t do anything crazy while wearing my ring.  I had an office job and for half the time I had the ring I was at home on maternity leave.  I pretty much babied that thing and it broke anyway.  Now that I have had it back for a few weeks after getting it repaired, I am terrified of wearing it becuase I don’t want it to get damaged again.

I did have it on yesterday for several hours but took it off and put it away once I noticed that it again has a rough spot on the bottom of the band.  It’s not cracked yet, but I don’t trust it and am very upset.  I won’t be wearing my Engagement Ring anymore due to the fact that it’s apparently too delicate to be breathed on.

I am truly sorry that you’re having issues with your ring.  If you decide to get it repaired, I hope the fix lasts longer for yours than it did for mine.

I had a palladium ring years ago and was told by a jeweler that it is very brittle and could crack. Platinum and white gold was recommended instead.
