I’m freaking out – I can’t find my engagement ring anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!! What am I going to do?
(Okay, so this wouldn’t be a problem if I left the damnd thing on my finger. But I wanted to put it someplace safe while camping).
I went away on vacation, camping at Pennsic (for those geeky enough to know what it is) for the past week and a half. In order to keep it safe from the elements, rubber hammers, spikes, tent ties, camp fires, ash, camp stoves, misplacing it when my fingers swell from heat/salt/water… I left my ring home.
Unfortunately, I was way overtired working to try to compensate for vacation to remember where. It was someplace safe. 🙁
I went to a family wedding with my boy on Aug. 5 – wore the ring because everyone asked to see it. Went to his place afterwards, crashed. Normally when I sleep there, I put my ering on his jewelry box.
I tried to stealthily check it yesterday, it wasn’t there. Of course its a mess, and god knows if it was shoved off.. he’s a slob. Love him, he’s a slob.
However its not in my jewelry box at home. I can’t remember if I wore it the day after the wedding (before I left) because I was running on about 2 hours of sleep.
He’s coming over tonight. He will recognize if I’m not wearing it…. what do I do.. I am tearing my room apart to bits and pieces right now, and carefully.. very very carefully reorganiing as I go to leave no stone unturned.
he’s going to be so upset. I’m even afraid he’ll blame me on purpose as he knows I hated it.

I’m all about telling the truth but to give you some time to look for it, I would tell him that it’s getting cleaned. That’s the reason why you don’t have it on today.
Eeek! I hope you find it soon.

check all the stupid places – in the pantry, hidden in flour or even the freezer or fridge because you might have thought leaving it at home in the box was pretty obvious if your house was robbed
im so sorry you are going through this and sending my best thoughts

UPdate: Funnily enough, as soon as I’m starting to panic – been looking for well over an hour – I just found my promise ring.
A Ring I thougth I lost over a year ago. Actually, closer to 2 years ago. It had fallen underneath a baseboard.

@dragonlover: Isn’t that always how it happens, lol?
Just take your time and look everywhere. I thought I lost mine and found out on an obscure shelf underneath our TV (I don’t even remember putting it there.)
At least you know it’s at his place…or your place, right?

Good news on your promise ring! That gives me hope for my mom’s college ring that I lost years ago…
Anyway! At least you know it’s somewhere safe in your home, yes? That’s a lot better than losing it out in the wilderness somewhere! Play that up, and the fact that you wanted to keep it safe from camping messes. Maybe your boy will think of something you haven’t. 🙂

@Lalai: My promise ring is actually the ring I like the looks of better. Love it, even if its just simple ruby chips. Hopefully the boy doesn’t accuse me over this.
Yes.. play up the I wanted to keep it safe because trompsing a campground of 12,000 people every day isn’t safe. Especially when nothing locks. *sigh* the search continues on

It sounds like it’s missing, but not lost for good, so I would just let him know that you didn’t want it to get ruined while camping and that it might be at his place.

i wouldn’t lie for any reason, to buy yourself time or otherwise…honesty is always the best policy. just tell him the truth…you didn’t want to lose it or damage it while you were camping and you left it either at his place or yours, but you can’t remember because you were so tired.

Not helpful info, but my nanny ‘lost’ her ring once (she had put it somewhere safe and then couldn’t find it anywhere!). She had a dream one night where she found the ring … got straight up in the morning and low and behold it was where she dreamt it was!
Sounds silly, and she said it was God telling her – but in reality it was probably her subconscious mind and only came out when she was dreaming.
Worth a shot though – go take a nap 😉

for my first marriage, I had taken the ring before showers (idk why) and after getting ready for the day I went to go to school and I couldn’t find my ring ANYWHERE. I was in panic mode. I skipped my morning classes was running around like crazy and crying and scared to tell my Fiance.. kind of like you are feeling right now!
And you know where I found the damned ring? Under the cap to my contact case.
Just goes to show, you never know where it will turn up!

I agree with previous posted that I would not lie for any reason, not to buy time or anything, not even a fib. Be perfectly honest. It isn’t lost, it is in your home or his, safe and sound…just hiding for some reason. Keep looking, and ask him to help, you will find it!!
I did this once, and when I came to my Fiance with that Oh Crap look in my eye… he had taken the dang thing off of the vanity where I left it perched precariously to ‘teach me a lesson’ about leaving it laying around.

I wouldnt lie about it, what happens if you tell him its getting cleaned and he finds it at his place. Just tell him the truth

Definitely don’t lie because he may have it and know you are lying. If there is a chance you left it at his place tell him the truth that you can’t find it and ask if he’s seen it. If I put my ring somewhere that hubs doesn’t think is “safe enough” he’ll pocket the thing until I ask him about it! I of course panic when I look in the place I left it and it isn’t there. He says he is trying to teach me to be more careful and only leave it on my finger or in my jewelry box! Grrrr!

My FH hid my ring once. He knows that I take it off when I come home, and he grabbed it one day. We were getting ready to leave to go somewhere, and I started looking everywhere for it. After a few minutes in my panicked voice I said, “I can’t find my ring.” He started smiling, so I knew he had it. Nice joke, huh?
Could you Fiance be playing a joke on you? Maybe he’s wanting to see how long it takes you to say something? Or is he not like that?
I would just fess up and say you can’t remember where you left it. Then maybe he can help you look.
