Totally normal, I had one at my first OB appointment, because I was due for one anyway. They like to make sure there’s no infections etc, as that can be dangerous for baby.

Word of warning, your cervix will be even more sensitive than normal, so it’s really likely you’ll have some bleeding afterwards, which is TOTALLY normal, and nothing to worry about.

Yes, it’s normal.  I had one at 5w although I didn’t know I was pregnant at that appointment.  They did the typical- feeling your uterus and such but couldn’t tell it was too early.  I switched to an OB when I found out and it was their routine to do a pap on the initial visit but since I had just had one the previous month they skipped it.

KatesTheWord:  My first OB appt was around 5 weeks and they did a pap since I was due for one. The nurse practitioner told me I would probably spot but nothing more. The first time I peed that night there was a little pink, but that was all.

Yes, that’s normal. I had one at my first OB appointment since I was also due for my annual exam and I was about as far along as you.

It’s normal but I personally would skip it and just get it done after pregnancy.

I have no real advice, but I thought I would pop in and wish you the best of luck during your pregnancy.  I didn’t get a PAP, but I don’t think I was due for one anyways.  I did get an interal exam though.  Not fun.

I was supposed to get a pap test done during my pregnancy but I asked if I could get it done at the 6 week postpartum appt instead. I bled a bit during my pregnancy though, so I didn’t want to freak myself out if I saw blood again. It all worked out because the dr had to check to see if everything was healed properly post delivery anyway. If you are having a normal pregnancy so far, I think it should be fine though.

Early on in pregnancy is Fine. I just got a reminder letter that mine is overdue now (2yrs goes quick!!!) and I asked my ob today and he said early on is ok but he wouldn’t do it now. I’m 33 weeks.

I had one at about five weeks because I was shamefully overdue. Interestingly, I was on holidays in the UK in second trimester and when I mentioned that to my doctor she was shocked and said they absolutely wouldn’t do that there!

ETA: oh and I didn’t have any spotting or pain or anything afterwards.

I had a pap around 11 weeks I think.  And I did bleed after a bit, totally normal.
