All my life… or at least the girly part of it… i have wanted paperlanterns at my wedding whether it be an outdoor or an indoor… i guess it has to do with being raised in a almost all asian community… but as i have already mentioned in the other posts i am getting married in a ranch that is pitch black after the sun goes down… i have been looking online for lighting ideas and i have not really found many receptions that use botj paper lanterns and string lights together… its usually an either or situation….since i do not want to commit a wedding faux pas… sorry i have been wanting to use that word for a long time… i would like to get some input from the great Wedding Bee Brides… please help me out… Thanks..

we are using lights and paper lanterns. The lanterns don’t give off a whole lot of light.

Sounds lovely. I am no lighting expert, but I can’t think of a reason it would be a wedding faux pas. 🙂

I think both would look great! No reason not to!

If you’ve always loved the lanterns, go for it.
I love the look of lanterns, but you need A LOT for them to make a difference. I recently planned an event that had the flicker light in them (the kind that work off a battery) and it barely emitted any light.
You definitely get more bang for the buck with lights.
My vote is for both!

We are using both- string lights around the paremeter and lanterns overhead. They set the mood more than anything, and are so gorgeous!

I just found this DIY project on Martha Stewart weddings today and saved it b/c I liked the idea so much. It uses large-bulb christmas lights, stickers and paper bags. It seems pretty easy and very inexpensive! I say the more lights and twinkle the better. Another look I found recently that I like is having the twinkle lights hand vertically from the ceiling (if it’s inside) this gives the illusions of height. Anyway. here’s the link: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/good-things/dinner-at-dusk-paper-lanterns?autonomy_kw=lanterns
