Up until now we had planned on using the venue provided centerpieces, cuz, well, ya cant be FREE..but after painting a picture of our entire wedding and reception set up, I was like OMGosh, they really dont go with anything! The venue itself is a very rustic setting, its up in the mountains, with alot of ceiling beams, timbers, hard wood floors, and stone fireplaces. Our rustic theme/decor has encorporated alot of rafia, grapevine garland, and paper lanterns. Their centerpieces are floating candles on a beveled mirror, and the more I visualize them sitting on our tables, the more Im like YUK, they have got to go!
Fiance and I (god love him for tolerating my flip in the script so close to the wedding, AND at 11p last night) settled on making our own centerpieces with the very popular mason jars (tres’ rustic!). Our, (ok, my) vision is to take 3 jars per table, all different sizes, add some pebbles, add a votive, tie a raffia ribbon around the neck, and badda bing, badda boom, DONE!
The best part is that we scored 54 mason jars, all various sizes, on Craigslist this morning for $30! I got the rafia at Hobby Lobby for $4.50, the candles were all of $15 and we already have a ton of pebbles (left over landscaping material) at home.
Here are two inspiration pics.. the rafia will be tied like the first pic, but we are filling ours 1/3 of the way with pebbles and adding the votives. BeAuTiFul and Rustic as all get out! Par le’ vous GOOD DEAL and last minute centerpiece crisis diverted!

This will look so awesome! I love it!
Also, idk what your colors are, or how “Fall” your wedding decor is, but it could look really cute to add a few mini pumpkin gourds to to the tables, too…

@seven12: that sounds awesome.. I was brain storming on anything small to scatter around, but Im not sure pumpkins will work. Our color is hunter green, and with all the other natural elements, the orange wouldnt match. Any other suggestions? I was kinda thinking about maybe pine cones or acorns or something?

@TeamMcGowan: What about the fancy white or green pumpkins? Acorns might be difficult to come up with can be toxic (fyi) and pinecones might be more decemberish than youd want.

I think the little white pumpkins would look great with hunter green! We’re using assorted gourds on our tables

I wouldn’t paint the pumpkins personally, because it wouldn’t look as rustic (plus it just sounds like a hassle!)… I like the idea of pinecones and acorns.
Or what about assorted green mini gourds?
