Okay, so, first things first, I apologise if this is a little Too Much Information, or if I sound really ignorant. This board is one of the only places I can ask questions and not worry about being judged!
I’m 25 years old, marrying September this year and we plan to stop using protection and see what happens (with the hope of conceiving!) For the past year or so I’ve used a fertility tracker app which tells you when you are ovulating, when your period is due, etc. And it’s worked really, really well. I’ve been able to predict when my period is due within a day or so. The app ovulation predictor is accurate I think because I’ve been charting cervical mucus (sorry, this is the Too Much Information bit and I’m even cringing typing it!!)
So anyway during February I wanted to lose a little weight for a wedding I was going to. I only did it for about 3-4 weeks, and I dropped from 54kg to 51.5kg. I’m 166cm tall and I think my BMI is aroundabout healthy.
In March, my period was about 4 days later than usual. Once it started, it went as normal and the rest of March was normal too. Then this month it’s late again (2 days so far)
I know this is probably really ridiculous of me, but I start getting myself into a panic that we are going to have trouble getting pregnant. I am so, so ready to become a parent and we’d be trying now if we were already married. Rationally I know that losing weight could put off your periods, I know that just because you have a period doesn’t mean you are fertile too, but I just expected now I’m eating normally again (I now weigh 52.4kg) I thought my periods would go back to normal? And they haven’t yet, and it just sends me into a blind panic sometimes. And even if losing weight has made my periods late, does this mean if I go on another diet/unintentionally lose any more weight (which sometimes I do, when work is hard or whatever) my periods will be late? Is having 30 to 32 day cycles normal? Is it okay that my cycle suddenly went from a spot on 28 days to 32 days okay? I know there are so so many questions here, and my head is all befuddled, I really just need some reassurance.
I’m really sorry for the extra long post too.

I’m not a doctor, so obviously can’y really advise, but, you do have a healthy BMI, and really, it is usually only when someone is VERY underweight that their menstrual cycle is affected. There are numerous things which can affect your cycle, including stress; and if you have been worrying about your weight and cycle recently this could be contributing to your late periods.
However, if you are concerned, see your doctor. Likewise, if you have always been regular, and this continues for another couple of months, and nothing else has changed (egt you haven’t recently come off hormonal BC for example), see your doctor and explain your worries.

My cycles were 30-32 days and I got pregnant. When my weight has fluctuated 5-10 pounds, it has affected my cycle, so your weight change probably did the same. I was a whole week late a few months before I actually got pregnant. I’d say if you are using the fertility tracker app and your body seems to be following that, then I wouldn’t worry. I used a more simple ovulation calendar I found online and I felt comfortable my cycle was following the calendar, which meant I was most likely ovulating.
I wouldn’t worry about it!

Don’t underestimate what weight loss can do to your cycle. I am 160 cm and usually weigh around 132 lbs. Last year I dropped to 122 lbs, which is still a very healthy BMI. My cycle became extremely irregular, with almost constant spotting and no definite period. This lasted for 3 months before I decided to cut back on the running and gained 6 or 7 lbs. Within a couple of months my period came back and was regular.

I bet your losing weight just shifted things a little, changed up your cycle. I always thought you have to be very thin with a low BMI to have it affect fertility. My sister had an eating disorder and got pregnant on her first try.

I’m underweight and have really irregular periods but I’m pretty sure I’ll get pregnant easily. quite scared actually, of getting pregnant before I’m ready… my mom got pregnant with me her first time, and she’s even more underweight than me! if you’re still worried, get yourself to a doctor, but imo you have nothing to worry about. just have lots of unprotected sex! 😉
