I recently got my engagement ring. We’ve been engaged for a while but had a silver ring initially as we were poor students. I have severe allergic contact dermatitis so when we got a replacement ring we chose platinum. We had the ring made at a bespoke jeweler. Initially the shoulders of the ring were paper thin and not at all what I asked for. We paid for them to add more platinum to the shank and now I’m happy with the band but I worry about the stone setting.
The basket and prongs seem so very much more delicate than on my silver ring and after having my platinum ring for only a week I could hear the stone rattling. We left it with a different jeweler today to get the prongs tightened because we’re sick to death of running backwards and forwards to the original jeweler who we no longer have trust in to be honest.
When I get my ring back i’m going to ask the repair jeweler why the stone came loose after a week when my silver ring is solid as a rock after a year of daily wear and toddlers at work playing with it. As it stands I’m exhausted by the whole farce and will be buying my wedding ring off the highstreet stress free!
I’ll upload some pictures when i’m on my laptop. Reassurance and advice would be welcomed!

Does the store you bought the ring from have a warrenty program? If it does then taking it to someone else for repairs might void that warrenty.
Platinum is harder then gold so sometimes the claws will be skinnier but you shouldnt have had it become loose so quick. If you keep having to fix it with the original jeweler and if they have a warrenty program they might just exchange the ring for another one. Sad choice but it might be your only option.
Sorry you are going thru this 🙁

I appreciate the info on platinum. I guess i’m just putting my mistrust of the jeweler onto the ring. It looks more delicate than my others but ordinarily I wouldn’t think it looked flimsy. I hope the stress I’ve had with the jeweler doesn’t continue to spoil my lovely ring for me emotionally.
As far as I have read I don’t have a great deal of rights beyond the usual statutory set when it comes to bespoke items. I could trade in the parts at resale value but i’d still be out of pocket by a hefty sum at the end of the day. I considered trading it in with the jeweler after the first mess but overall it was going to cost us an extra 570 pounds. I don’t think i’d go the vespoke route again, at least not in this country. Too high stress to satisfaction ratio XD
