We’re going to take my parents away for a weekend trip somewhere new, and will pay for flights, hotel rooms, cocktails, and meals.

whitney3 :  Each of our parents are supposed to visit for Thanksgiving and Christmas after our October wedding. There is a Japanese hot tub style spa nearby and we are getting them gift cards for couples massages

Not for my parents (they’re so hard to buy for!!!) but I know that for my grandmother, I’m resizing her wedding ring.

She has 2 – she put on some weight, and couldn’t wear her original ring, so purchased a new larger band. Then due to a number of health issues, she lost a LOT of weight, and both are too large, so she wears neither. She’s not a fancy lady (her own words), but I think it makes her very sad that she isn’t able to wear her wedding ring regularly without fear that she’ll lose it.

She has gifted the original ring to me for my wedding, and so I’m going to resize the newer, larger ring for her in time for our wedding so she can wear it on the day (I will probably get it to her beforehand though!)

futuremrscaribou :  what a thoughtful idea! I love that you’re both gifting each other your rings.

We didn’t do parent gifts. I brought this up to my mother trying to feel out what to get her and she thought the idea was rediculous (no clue why).

I think under the circumstances of a wedding most parents understand what’s being put into it and don’t expect anything (none of ours did).
