I love my Future In-Laws and feel like my parents will really like them, however I am extremely nervous about their first meeting which is happening next week. Basically, my Future Mother-In-Law has been pretty overeager (read: pushy) about wanting to meet my parents, which I think has put my mom off a little. Mom friended my Future Mother-In-Law on facebook, thinking that it would be a nice way to communicate until they could wangle a meeting. Future Mother-In-Law took the opportunity to press my mom about getting together ASAP, suggesting meeting at a “halfway point” that is WAY closer to the Future In-Laws and then suggesting that my parents should just come to the Future In-Laws house… almost two hours away.
Eventually they settled on an actual halfway point (which I had told Future Mother-In-Law was the half-way point and have even met Fiance there on occasion) and a date to meet. But then my mom realized that at no point had my Future Mother-In-Law specified whether or not my Fiance and I should go. My Future Father-In-Law even said to my Fiance that we probably shouldn’t go.
I’m thinking that I should insist to my Fiance that we are definitely going, because my mom’s already not digging the idea of a meeting because of how my Future Mother-In-Law has gone about trying to ‘arrange’ a get together. I feel like my parents want the moral support, but his parents clearly weren’t thinking of us coming. Should I insist on going, or leave it be?
