If you decide to elope and want to have a party after you return from your honeymoon, does it really matter when you have it? We were thinking about eloping and then sending out a sort of STD card announcing our elopement and giving a date for the following party with the usual “invitation to follow” note. This way I can still have my wedding colours and some decor, have those that I love celebrate with me and heck, my daughters can wear their dresses again.

We are thinking of having a post-elopement party too, but want to have it at least 6 months after…but we are still in the trying to decide phase.

Hi, I just responded to your other post.
No, there’s no real expectation of time, except that longer than a year might be sort of weird (a year is fine–you can do an “anniversary party!”) Ours is about 6 months from the actual wedding.

Thanks for the responses. We are thinking about doing it a year down the road and renewing our vows along with involving our daughters in the ceremony by presenting them with rings that we will all have in similar styles.

We’re having a cocktail reception 6 months later- we’re going to send out wedding announcements after the elopement, which will also serve as an STD.
