I am so excited! I just received my wedding dress! I fell in love with an old J Crew wedding dress. I love the simple tee shirt neckline, and the sparkly silk fabric. I ordered it from Ebay, it’s an 8, where as I am more of a 2-4, so it needs to be taken in. Of all the dresses I tried on, none could compare to this one. I’m so glad I liked it when I arrived.
We’re having a fairly small, outdoor wedding so I think it will be perfect. Glam enough that I will feel like a bride, but easy to wear, and no train to worry about getting dirty.
What do you guys think? I’m not sold on the sash with it, I think the two bows on the back are a bit much. Please ignore the bra showing, I will wear a different one.

GORGEOUS dress!~ Also not sold on the sash though 😀 Perhaps something else to nip in the waist? Or just GREAT alterations.

@limekitty: Thanks! It’s looking extra awkward here because I am using the sash to nip in the extra fabric.
I think I will remove the tie on the top on the dress, and get a hook and eye put in. I’m not a fan of the bow. I also think if I stick with the sash, of doing the same, so no tie closures. I think it will look much cleaner, and suit the style of the front more.

Love that dress! I agree, subbing the ties for hook and eye closures will put the focus back on that ammmmmaaaazzzzziiiinnnngggg dress.

Gorgeous! I think you are spot on with your plans to make both of the bows into hook and eye closures; It will really let the simplicity of the dress shine. Love it!!

Oooh! Very pretty! Totally agree with your changes… It’ll be so beautiful.

@franklyn: Wow the dress is gorgeous! I love the sleeves, and the material looks amazing. Great idea about removing the tie at the back.

What a gorgeous dress! I would remove the tie at the back as well!

@franklyn: LOVE THAT DRESS! It’s actually one of my dream dresses and it’s so nice to see it on a real person.
Depending on how good your alterations will be, consider having jewels/beads sewn right onto the waistline for an illusion belt instead of a sash. I think once the top strings are converted to a hook&eye, the dress may actually look lovely with a dainty sash, but just a different one than what the dress comes with.
Please keep us posted with your dress journey!

franklyn ok so I know you mentioned a belt but what if you got it altered to fit snuggly around the waist and then added a jeweled collar, not like a shirt collared but adding jewels around the neck to look like a statement necklace? Beautiful dress by the way!

@letigre: There are a few of them around. I love it, the silk is soft, and the fabric is light weight and beautiful. It is lined, a thin silk used on the top and a thicker silk on the bottom. I was worried that it would be scratchy because of the metallic fibers but it isn’t at all.
I Love this idea, I hadn’t thought of that. I am planning on wearing pearls my dad gave my mom years ago, but maybe they would both work.
Thanks for the compliments ladies! I am so excited about this dress, and so glad it measured up to what I pictured in my head. I kept comparing all other dresses to this one, but I had never tried it on, so I am relieved it worked out and so glad I could track one down! I’m 5′ 10” so it was extra hard, I couldn’t get one that had been shorted.

It’s BEAUTIFUL! I love J.crew wedding (I’m a J.crew bride too!). You’re lucky– the fabric looks like it will be easily taken in by a seamstress.

@pengoala: Thank you!
What dress are you wearing? The wedding department at J crew is so helpful, I called asking about two dresses, one which I ended up returning and this one. They were looking through their stores and warehouses to see if they had any of this dress left. I was so impressed by them.

@franklyn: I have the Dauphine gown from one of their recent collections. I agree, j.crew has excellent customer service. My bridesmaids are all wearing j.crew as well and the reps there have been nothing but helpful.
