@mandapanda: I didn’t have a pasta bar, so I can’t really answer that question….but oh my gosh DELICIOUS 🙂

Yummy!  The pasta stations I’ve seen actually had a couple of people with pans and you picked your pasta (typically 2-3 choices), sause (white or red), and a meat, some veggies, cheese, etc and they mix it all together in a pan to heat it up and then pour it into a bowl for you.  So then evreyone gets their own personalized pasta dish!

We had a pasta station at our cocktail hour.  There were 2 different varieties and they were in huge warming dishes that I am sure most any wedding venue would have available (or you can rent them too).  Ours was actually chef manned so he was constantly making new batches/stirring so it doesnt stick.  I am sure if people are serving them self though they would stir it while scooping and it would mix it up to not stick.

There was a pasta station at my work’s holiday party last year and it was fantastic! They had 3 different types of pasta – tortellini, ziti and another kind which I do not remember and a few different sauces.  The chef heated up the pasta sauce and pasta selected in a skillet.  There were toppings also, like hot red pepper flakes, parm cheese etc.

so hungry…

i’ve only seen manned pasta bars like pp’s described. steer clear of long strands like spaghetti though — i’m sure no one wants red sauce on their formal clothes!

I haven’t seen this at a wedding or other formal event but I have seen it once at a catered employee dinner at a summer camp I worked at as a teenager. Everyone loved it and it went very smoothly and quickly. I’m not sure how they kept the pasta hot, etc but caterers do that type of thing all the time so they have it down to an art.

Nearly everyone loves pasta of some sort so I think it would be a hit.
