The pastor who will be marrying us is the father of my fiance’s best friend. He will be doing our marriage counseling as is doing this free-lance as we are not marrying in a church and he no longer works for a church anymore. What is considered the proper amound to pay a pastor who is doing both our wedding and marriage counseling like this?

We paid ours $220….it was his fee, but it was the same thing as you’re doing–he came unaffiliated from a church and did a 2-hour counseling service and also our wedding

Ours accepts a $100 donation, and expects us to pay for his hotel and gas. He will be doing our counseling and the rehearsal.

An old colleague offered to do our wedding, which I happily accepted. I took care of his and his wife’s travel arrangements and made a $200 donation.

Our church said it would cost $750 at first, half to the church and other half for the organist, then we told the priest we are going through a rough time and he lowered it to $450 and my Fiance got him to lower it to $250. The $250 will be donated to the church, but we have to pay it. My friend got married in a church and they didnt charge her anything, she just had to donate whatever she wanted to, i guess all churches are different, but thank goodness he lowered it from 750!!

Our pastor does not accept payment for marrying couples who belong or have belonged to his congregation. So, we are paying for his travel, which he hesitated to allow at first.
We will be making a donation of sorts to the church he pastors, probably around 200 dollars as well.
