@bride21: I’m so sorry about how sick your son has been and is again. I hope he’s OK soon!! I get what you are saying and I’m sorry that he changed his mind after agreeing to perform the ceremony free of charge. I understand that $350 isn’t easy to come up with in your situation. I hope you are able to resolve everything and I suggest talking to him as soon as you can. Good luck!

@ktisthatbees: That is the best thing I have read all day.

OP, I hope that you are able to calmly talk to your pastor and resolve this issue.  I also hope that your son’s medical issues are resolved once and for all.  Good luck!

@ktisthatbees:

We’re in total agreement here. 🙂

OP, hope your son gets better and hope you have a good experience talking to the pastor on Sunday.  I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.

@luckyprincess:  Finally, someone who actually READ the OP!  I was so confused, I read it several times thinking I missed something.  One person was accusing her of quitting church and she clearly stated that she was NOT even a member in the first place.  Poor girl probably doesn’t feel like she deserves her wedding now….

@jenroh1984:

I know – my heart went right out to her when I saw her post getting mixed in with assumptions 🙁

I hope the poster gets in touch with the Pastor soon and gets this resolved. I feel for her–the crux of her argument was that the Pastor agreed that no fee would be charged (with no strings attached, according to the OP), and now she is hearing second-hand that the Pastor has decided to charge them after all.

Many people seem to pile on her and say it’s her fault for not going to church, but why doesn’t the Pastor hold any blame here? He’s supposed to be a man of God, not someone who renegs on promises made in good faith to people who are counting on (and grateful for) his generosity. They are also dealing with a sick child, which I would expect their family members/acquaintances at church would have clued the Pastor into as well.

OP, I know you want to save your cell minutes for doctor calls, etc., but I would really advise you to borrow someone’s phone and call the Pastor right now. Please don’t wait and let this fester another 5 days. At the very least he owes you an explanation for the last-minute flip-flop on his part.

And to the poster who questioned why she had a church wedding with tight finances at home? Duh, she thought she was getting the venue for free! That’s exactly what you do when you’re very low on cash but want to find a way to have a nice service anyway. The Pastor’s generous offer was going to allow her to do something more than a JOP wedding but stay on a tiny budget, and I don’t see anything greedy or selfish about that.

if he is only going to charge your 350 for the church and his services, are you going to be able to find another place for cheaper? i think that even though you have to pay, it will be your cheapest bet. you arent gonna find anything cheaper.

I think $200 and a big thank you is perfect.  I’m so happy you found a place to have your special day and I hope it is everything you want.
