for a ftm, i feel like i’m showing big for being only 18 wks. and ppl who dont know how far along i am think i’m like already 5-7 months along and dont ask permission but go straight for my belly….most of these ppl are friends of friends so not complete strangers and i’m just too nice to say stop or no :-/…. i should also mention that i had somewhat of a beer belly before i got pregnant so i feel like theres still a lot of belly fat showing and the baby bump thats growing is just hiding underneath, thus making me seem bigger than i really am….so in my head i’m like, ur just touching belly fat dude(tte), not baby belly cuz the baby’s still too small to be felt. lol

I heard about this for years and everyone warned me when I got pregnant but I am 30 weeks and have yet to have a stranger touch my belly.
The only people that have touched my belly is Darling Husband, mom, and best friend. And my mom and best friend have asked. Guess I’m lucky in that respect. I do get rude comments all the time from strangers asking about weight and other inappropriate things.

@SweetChick: I’ll be proud mama when the day comes, but that doesn’t mean I want people coming up and touching my belly. It’s like being proud that you work hard at the gym and have a nice bum to show it off…doesn’t give people the right to come up and smack it. lol
OP…I’m not sure how to prevent people from touching your belly. I think the only thing you can do is to tactfully ask people not to do it if they start reaching for you? Oh, I dread this issue when I’m preggers.

I was worried about this in the beginning of my pregnancy (now 39 weeks) but looking back strangers have never tried to touch my belly. I have certain family members who always do but that’s family and what can you really do about that. Maybe it’s the area I live in? (NJ outside of Philly) I’ve found people have been pretty oblivious to the fact that I’m very pregnant even when I kind of want them to notice (i.e. like when I’m trying to put a case of water bottles in my shopping cart).
So don’t worry maybe this won’t even end up being a problem!

I’ve already had 3 people at work reach out and touch before I could stop them! The last time, I sort of put my hand on my stomach before her, but she still snuck it in there! I don’t like people touching me under regular circumstances so this just makes me incredibly uncomfortable. But I’ve already alluded to my Mother-In-Law that this is not something I like, so I think she got the subtle hint! Now to stave off my husband’s cousin when I see her -I’m going to have to do some major belly blocking!! 😉
