it’s really a tough call. But you only live once, and only get one honeymoon (theoretically). it’s only money, you can always earn more. I vote for the awesome honeymoon!!

If you said excessive credit card debt that would be one thing. But student loans shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying life. I think that if you are still able to make your monthly payment and this trip won’t stretch you then go! You only live once! I have a hefty amount of student loans, but hardly any CC debt (except for wedding expenses) but I’m still going to Jamaica for ten days for my honeymoon.

What’s the interest rate on the student loans? Mine were 0.75% and I took my sweet time paying them off. Never missed a payment, just not in any hurry to pay it off early. When it’s that cheap to borrow money, there’s simply no reason to not use your cash for other things.

Honeymoon!  I’m paying off school loans for the next 10 years, but nothing is more important that enjoying the big steps in your life that make is so memorable.  You’re only young once 🙂  But like PP stated, don’t go too nuts but still enjoy yourself.

I agree to take the Honeymoon.  You’re not eliminating the loans.  I might feel differently if you were.

Honeymoon! You only live once! I have 70k in student loans (ouch!) and I don’t even plan to put any money we recieve as wedding gifts towards it. I’m going to be paying them off forever, but I still want to enjoy myself along the way!

@fishbone:  how the hell were your loans interest rate so low?! were they undergrad loans? I have grad loans at 7 and 8% !!!  (Federal loans not private!)

I say Costa Rica– you can (generally) deduct your student loan interests.

The best advice I ever got in life was from an elderly lady. She told me to have fun while I’m young because I won’t enjoy laying on a beach in Hawaii when I’m 70, wrinkled and fat, but can afford it more.

    haha I loved it.

I agree with most PPs.  We considered skipping the honeymoon and just going to the beach for a long weekend to pay a few extra mortgage payments, but we decided that we probably wouldnt take a trip like that again until retirement.  You’ll always have something to pay off.
