Is this even possible? I want to pay for my hotel in advance prior to arrival and was told that I could not because I may do additional expenses. Isn’t that why my card is on file anyways? I want to pay for my stay and if I do anything additional just charge it to my credit card.

Where are you renting a hotel? In most places in the US, you can make a reservation paid in advance – especially if you’re booking online. You will then usually be asked for a card on file when you check in for any incidentals (mini bar, stuff like that.) The only time I’ve been told I cannot pay in advance was when I was staying in hostels backpacking across Europe/Asia.

vlzaccaria: It depends on the hotel. My Darling Husband works for a hotel here and they’ve been trying to eliminate the practice as they’ve actually had a lot of issues recently with people paying for a week stay a week or 2 before and then 3 weeks later the hotel finds out it was paid for with a stolen credit card and that causes the hotel a massive headache.
