My son (15 yrs old) started doing this last year. He usually charges about $40-60 per yard. Most lots in our neighborhood are around half an acre. Usually takes him 2-3 hours with a friend and two leaf blowers

gatsbymermaid :  I’d probably just hand them a $20 for all of it, unless of course it’s going to take them all day. Maybe ask their parents?

I saw some kids in my neighborhood raking the leaves yesterday and they were having so much fun building big piles then running through them, it was super cute. But also maybe a reason to not pay by the hour.

How big is the yard? I’d probably just give them $20-50 fornthe work and not pay by the hour. The amount depends on the age of the kids and the size of the yard.

I would offer $40 per kid, no rate. Kids get smart and they will take their time if it means making more money lol

I would not pay by the hour, but by the work done. Base it on how much yard you have.

That said, another option is to just not rake your leaves. It really is not a necessary maintenance task and leaving them over the winter is actually good for your lawn.

gatsbymermaid :  do not offer to pay teenagers or kids by the hour, they will just fuck the dog all day and then hold out thier hands for payment while your yard is still covered in leaves. Offer a set amount for a completed job. If you really want the job done right don’t offer it only to kids, just post the dimensions of your yard, what you want done and what you are willing to pay. The sad reality of it is the job will most likely get done by an adult just trying to make ends meet because 98% of today’s teenagers are literal leeches.

Depends on the size of the yard.

Wow I disagree that 98% of teenagers are leeches and I think that is a disgusting outlook.

I would just make a rough guess based on the size of your yard and have a flat price. The $60 a previous poster mentioned seems very high to me but it will depend on your area I guess.

If you really want the job done right don’t offer it to teenagers? I mean it’s raking leaves, not rocket science – a teenager is more than capable of a task of that nature. Clearly you know/ are related to terrible bunch of kids because 98% of leeches is so far from reality, maybe you should be a bit less judgmental and expand your experiences.

sboom :  Disagree slightly. Leaves get caught in gutters and storm drains and drainage becomes a problem. If your property is a wide open field, no direction or channels for draining then you can let the leaves be.

zzar45 :   capable, yes. Willing for a reasonable price, not from what I’ve seen. When we were teens we were begging for those jobs, now no one I know can find a babysitter and my mother, in a totally different town, couldn’t find a single one willing to mow her lawn. Maybe you’re just lucky and know a bunch of motivated ones, or maybe your town ins different. I’m honestly very disillusioned by what I see with the majority of the upcoming generation.

I wouldn’t want to work for someone with your personality either, doesn’t make me a leech or unmotivated.

If your friends want childcare and can’t find anyone maybe they should stop trying to throw a few dollars at a kid and actually pay a professional who has experience.

I think people who are looking to pay the bare minimum for a task they don’t want to do are the real leaches. 🤷‍♀️
