- Wedding: March 2014
Need some advice, especially from the legal-type bees:
I met with the guy I want to be my wedding photographer this past weekend. We have decided to hire him.
Our wedding isn’t until 2012, but I know it’s pretty standard to pay half or so down in order to book your date (and since our date is May 19, a Saturday, we really want to pull the trigger on this as quickly as possible, since May will book up quickly.)
Our photog is offering a $300 discount to go ahead and book soon, and a further discount to pay in full now. (He apparently needs a new laptop, and us paying in full would allow him to go ahead and buy one). He offered to let us pay via credit card through paypal.
We have the funds to do this now, but I’m a little unclear about what our protections would be if we paid with a credit card through Paypal. Someone online said that it would nullify our credit card protections, but I don’t know if it’s true. If we used paypal, would we still be able to use the credit card protection to get the money back if this guy decides to go rogue? If not, is there another way to pay? He seems really trustworthy and was able to show all kinds of work, but I’ve seen a few other brides get burned by photogs and a lot can happen in a year and a half.
