I am selling a wedding dress and am wondering which is a better way to go in terms of payment. PayPal or Escrow? I am in Canada and my customer is in the UK, so cash payment, making the sale face-to-face is not an option. Has anyone used either of these payment methods? Any experience you have had with either of these services, both good and bad, would be much appreciated!
Thanks Hive 🙂

My Fiance and I use PayPall ALLLLL of the time. Whenever we buy something online and PayPal is an option, we use it. We just feel that it is a safer way to shop online, and then our PayPal account is linked to our bank account, so it’s like punching in our debit card number, just safer. We also have an old roommate of ours that we put on our cell phone account to save money with a family plan, and he sends us bill money every month into our PayPal account. Oh, and I’ve never even heard of Escrow.

I’ve used both for selling, but prefer escrow.com. The process is very straightforward and it doesn’t allow any room for scams. Paypal’s buyer and seller protection outside of eBay is a little fuzzy to me. Only downsides for escrow.com is only allows payment with a wire transfer for wedding dress (no credit card) and the commission is slightly higher at 3.5%. Also for international wire transfers, there is an additional fee. The buyer has at least 1 day to inspect the dress and possibly return it (in which case you have to go through a lengthy arbitration process if you don’t want to accept a return), but escrow.com holds them responsible for shipping charges both ways plus the escrow fees, which discourages most buyers from doing this. I’m always nervous about returns or fraudlent chargebacks by the buyer when I use Paypal.
